Granted, this website provides great information, but I think some of the questions being asked are clearly discussed and answered if you go a search on the forum. Also, the questions are way to vague in what people are looking for.

Your question blades: What type high lift, mulching? What type of mowers are we talking about commercial, residential?

I figured why supply most the answer, when I can just see if people have a favorite.

For example, it would not matter whether it's professional commercial tree work or homeowner pruning - I can tell you that Silky is probably the best all-around pruning handsaw. See what I mean? The curve don't matter, the blade length don't matter. Just what's the best all-in-all quality and durability.

Looks like someone jumped in though with a a preference since I posted.

Mowers is not one of my knowledge points, but I suspected that every company would not be using the same metal and quality. But I am curious.

Scag uses Marbain blades and are probably the best wearing blades in the industry.

All Scag cutter blades are manufactured using a special blade material called Marbain™. Marbain cutter blades are lighter in weight than the typical steel used for cutter blades. A lighter weight cutter blade means the blades will start and stop quicker and produce less wear on the PTO clutch brake. Less horsepower is absorbed turning the lighter weight blades which provides more usable horsepower for cutting.

Marbain blades are also stronger and harder than typical blade steel which means they require sharpening less often and are more resistant to bending and impacts. That means less maintenance and cost for you!

Marbain Blades compare themselves to "standard" blades for their 40% harder and last 30% longer claims.
In fact, they have a 50 Rc hardnest compared to 42.5 Rc for "standard" blades.
The Oregon Fusion blades have the same hardness (50 Rc) and have similar performances.
You can find the Oregon Fusion for much cheaper than the Marbain blades.

I also believe the question needs to be more specific, because while everyone does have a favorite,
seeking out these favorites will only get you a wide variety of answers out of which it may prove
difficult to narrow it down.

Yup, my dealer is a Scag, Toro, and Wright Dealer. Scag has the same size decks and 5/8" inch center hole as Wright so I only buy Scag and Oregon from him.

I made the mistake a few years ago and bought a ton of blades from an online store such as M# Part and J Th#mas. The blades were garbage, they wore like crap and with the mulching blades the little raised "fingers" were breaking off for no reason. Nothing like having a tiny, pointed chunk of steel leaving your deck at 600mph.

Like grass seed and women, when its comes to blades you get what you pay for. Spend a little more, get a little more.

Oregon

Are you guys going to leave the carlton chain as it is or is it getting changed into oregon with a carlton name on it like windsor was?
I am not sure what the final decision on that is. I am not directly involved in the chain and bar. That is all handled in Portland by a different group of managers and decision makers. I handle all the technical and warranty for the blades and other outdoor equipment parts. My office is here in the blade plant at Kansas City.

Best blade across the board.... so such thing.

http://www.tracksplus.com/ Make the Marbain blades for Scag. They do not have blades for all mowers, but most, and are very reasonable in price. They are harder than a whores heart and cut great.

Having said that..... I also buy Oregon from Russo in Chigago. Less than six bucks a piece for a block of ten. I use both depending on ?????

Both companies excellent to deal with!
