hey guys im gonna paint all the mufflers on my walkbehinds. they dont look awful just a little surface rust. i went to advance auto parts and they have 1200 degree paint. you have to cure it in your oven on 450 for 2 hours. i was just planning on hitting them with the wire wheel then painting them on.

does this paint work? i dont wait to just flake off when the mufflers get hot. all this equipment is air cooled so i know they run hotter.

any other brands?

yea I have used it before... had no problems....

I didn't follow any instructions.... Just painted some headers too.....

you know how it is.... Just knock off some of the flaking rust, and paint the damn thing..

What if you run the machine with the wet paint on it?
Will the heat cure it if you're careful and pay attention?
Maybe heat cycle it a few times to bake it on.
Just a thought.
Maybe a heat gun would do the trick after you apply the paint.
My wife would kill me if she found mower mufflers in the oven.

I painted my muffler about a year ago with high temp paint (the kind you can get anywhere). The muffler still looks good. Now that I think about, i think the paint had some sort of ceramic something in it.

Which paint are you talking about?

I'm pretty sure that if you were to run almost any paint up to 900 or 1000 degrees while it's still wet the paint would boil off.

The paint with flames should be Duplicolor Engine Enamel Ceramic. It's only rated to 500 degrees so it's not suitable for a muffler.

Don't cure the 1200 degree paint in the oven. Put it on the mower and run the engine for about 20 minutes. It will be cured.
