I don't want to over grease the spindles on my 61" scag tiger cub. I heard you can rupture the seals. The manual calls for grease every 40 hours of use so how many pumps of grease for each spindle on a standard grease gun? I was also told that the spindles have a way to let the excess grease escape before the seals rupture. Any truth to this? Using Red & Tacky #2 Lithium grease from Lucas

I bought a new Scag Wildcat so I know at least the new Wildcats have an outlet. I just pumped it in until grease started coming out the other side. I would guess the Cub is the same. the outlet, or overflow, (what ever it's called) is on the opposite side of the spindle.

I do the same thing and use the red & tacky. No issues.

Usually 2-3 pumps is all they will need. You should try and use a higher quality grease so the spindles will have the maximum protection due to the high rpm's these spindles run.
I looked everywhere from AutoZone, NAPA, Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and everywhere in between and can't find what Scag recommends...(White Lithium MP 2125). I really don't like to mix grease...prefer to use a quality brand and stick with it, same with engine oil.

skeet, where you at in DE.?

Yes, the manual calls for white lithium grease and I couldn't find it anywhere so I wrote Scag and got the following reply:
Thank you for contracting us with your question.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had a difficult time in locating the spindle grease that we recommend in the operators manual. Any good quality lithium based multi-purpose grease meeting the NLGI #2 rating can be used not only for your spindles, but all other grease points on your machine as well.

I hope that this information will be helpful to you.

Thank you,
