A new dealer near me sells Gravley and Ariens. I stopped in for the first time. He swears by the Ariens 21" push mowers with Kawi engines. About half the price of the Honda Im getting ready to retire. Anyone here run these or know anything about them good or bad?

I just saw one of these at a dealer the other day and it looks like every other regular mower out there. This one had plastic wheels, same type of height adjustments, I'm not sure if it had a kawi on it or not. One of the reasons we switched to commercial Honda's was the wheels, we went through a couple sets on the Snapper's we used to run. You can always put steel wheels on if you want and if it has a kawi on it, it's probably going to last for quite awhile.

I'm very reluctant to not buy another commercial honda. I bought mine new in 1996 and it finally wore out! I think I paid $1100 back then and it has proven its worth every penny. This ariens is $600 and I have a feeling I may regret buying it. Unless others here have good things to say and I may give it a try.

I bought a gravely lm with the swivel wheels a few weeks a go. It is the best cutting 21'' I have used since my old comm lawn boy but bags better. My worker cut a back yard the other day that was wet and about 4-5' and never clogged. My only dislike of the mower is that it has plastic wheels.

I wish Honda made caster wheels, they're heavy!

Ariens either bought Gravely or vise versa. One of my dealers sells them and has tried to get me to buy an Ariens.

I haven't heard any-thing negative about them.

Also, I have only ever seen one
lawn care company with an Ariens in their truck.

They couldn't be any better or worse than others in that price range.

If you maintain it, it will last a long time. Plus it has a warranty.

I have a self propelled Ariens. It runs good, The plastic wheels are still on there working. It has the swivel wheels that glides over lawns. I have a brand new one just sitting on the old one to die. I have 2 new motors for the old one or new one just in case. It leaves a nice cut, and packs really good in the bag. I've had a lot of push mowers never a commercial. The Ariens is by far the best one I have ever had. The deck is very heavy. I can't say what the new ones will do because my new one has never been in the grass. Needless to say I thought enough of the old one to buy another new one.

I have an areins SW 21 Kawasaki. Best quility of cut when bagging of any mower this size I've used. Dry cut of bravo 25 ...vs .areins 21....not sure ...yet. areins cuts well in wet conditions but the ybravo 25 is hands down a better performer in the rain plus the deck is wider and more productive. Ybravo bag is more high flow. Traversing steep side swells with areins is a bit of pita with SW even if left front wheel is locked straight. Also top heavy and wants to slide on side hills. Bravo 25 grips better on steep side swells. I find the bravo drive system easier to manipulate on the fly which means faster.

Are you looking at the LM21 Classic or the Pro. I thought the Pro version had steel wheels?

The dealer showed me the LM21s classic. You are right though, the pro has steel wheels and a guard for about $150 more and Im considering it.

Question is whether the wheel is plastic or polycarbonate. If it is poly, I don't think there is anything to worry because they are stronge. Look at the composit gun, all poly and they easily out last the one made of steel. Find out whether the wheels are polycarbonate.

The literature makes it sound like the major difference is the steal wheels, Please enlighten. Thank you.

IS500Z is correct. The pro is the same deck but with steel wheels and a front guard. I'm picking up the LM21S on wed. and will give it a try. I will give a review comparing it to my honda next week sometime. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I wouldn't have given this mower a chance unless I got this info.

the ariens pro is NOT the same model as the classic-completly diff desighn deck and drive are diff desighn and not proven. get the classic.
Im getting the classic LM21S. How do they mulch? Is it worth buying the mulch kit?

they mulch great and can pick up and mulch leaves like a snapper hi vac will -an added bonus. for mulching-just get the mulch plug and use the standard blade. it does a good enough job. i bought the mulcher and it left clumps in thick grass. the standard blades left no clumps and you go from mulching to bagging with no change of blade. a very versatile machine and it side shoots like no other.
