this is the best non pro 21 you can buy today hands down. i bought 4 and have been very satisfied with them . the swivel wheels are great and once you try them -its hard to go back. the plastic wheels hold up well to comm duty. only mower in the world that can replace the snapper hi vac

I was a Gravely/Ariens dealer. When I sold my shop, I made sure to take a classic LS 21 with me for my home use. Great mower all around. No, it is not made for commercial use, but it does hold up pretty well in that type of service. Hired help can tear one up in a season, but if you mostly operate it yourself, or have better than average hired help, it will last a long time. A common failure is the recoil start on the Kawasaki engine. Keep a spare recoil assy. on hand. Takes about 5 minutes to change them out. Also, height adjuster levers break off if you change cut heights a lot. Keep a set of those on hand also.
This classic model is way better in cut and overall dependability than the "Commercial" Gravely 21".
I think the Ariens 21" classic is the best performing 21" mower you can buy right now, for less than $1000.00.

I did end up buying one last year and posted a detailed review. It's a very well built mower and cuts good. But the drive system drives me crazy. One wheel spins and it's hard to get traction. It would be nice if it had a locking differential. I still use it at home and as a back up. My Honda is still my everyday mower.

I have a self propelled Ariens. It runs good, The plastic wheels are still on there working. It has the swivel wheels that glides over lawns. I have a brand new one just sitting on the old one to die. I have 2 new motors for the old one or new one just in case. It leaves a nice cut, and packs really good in the bag. I've had a lot of push mowers never a commercial. The Ariens is by far the best one I have ever had. The deck is very heavy. I can't say what the new ones will do because my new one has never been in the grass. Needless to say I thought enough of the old one to buy another new one.
We got rained out last Saturday. On the way home I was thinking what I could do for the day. I decided I'd get one of those new motors out and put on the old Ariens. I had the motor changed out in less than an hour. Got some w-40 made some squirts here and there, put a new spring on the self propelled unit, put some Gorilla tape on a couple of spots in the bag. This mower has spent most of it's life in the back of my old pick up or on the trailer. Last year I pulled it in to an old garage at there it sat. After I did the work on it, I cut our grass with it. I decided it should go back on the trailer to use when needed on small yards. This was my second mower when I started almost 17 years ago. While it hasn't been used much the last few years, it's as solid and everything works as well as the day I bought it. It will still run up a hill like a raped ape and still packs grass and leaves better than anything I've ever used. Yep if I ever wear this one out or the new one in the garage, I'd buy another. Through the years this mower has cut a bunch of grass.

A new dealer near me sells Gravley and Ariens. I stopped in for the first time. He swears by the Ariens 21" push mowers with Kawi engines. About half the price of the Honda Im getting ready to retire. Anyone here run these or know anything about them good or bad?
Yes sir, The Ariens or Gravely LM21SW gets the job done everytime. I have an 18 year old Ariens LM21SW with a Tecumseh 6.0hp motor and it pulls me around like a rag doll. My Gravely LM21SW with the Kawasaki engine is one year old and I cannot tell the difference between them in power or cut quality. Best investment for my company.

I'm very reluctant to not buy another commercial honda. I bought mine new in 1996 and it finally wore out! I think I paid $1100 back then and it has proven its worth every penny. This ariens is $600 and I have a feeling I may regret buying it. Unless others here have good things to say and I may give it a try.

I originally had a Ariens LM21SW and desided to buy the Honda HR21 from Home Depot. For me the Honda did not perform. After my fourth use I was taking it back because the valves needed to be adjusted and later in the same year i returned it it again only to have Honda replace the head gasket! Maybe I got a bad model but the Honda HR21 I bought did not make it through one summer.

Im getting the classic LM21S. How do they mulch? Is it worth buying the mulch kit?
I got the mulching kit on EBay, brand new in the box for $34.00. Normal price $140.00! After a couple uses it works as advertised but what I really found that works 100% is a gator blade sold by Petessmallengine.com, part#302-500ar, $16.00. Fits like the original blade and boy does it mulch! Its actually factory recommended.

been running a fleet of 4 for about a year. no negs and way more reliable than snapper which has a sim drive system. was skeptical of the plastic wheels but they have held up fine.
How do you break a snapper unless it is stuff like belts?

snappers do tend to throw or break belts of most probs are with the idler pully on the disk drive belt. the later desighn with out the idle pulley is far better. since i bought a snapper with this system breakdowns have been greatly reduced. still an ariens can do any job a snapper hi vac can do. and vice versa.
