Just wanted to know if anyone has or still own a Scag Turf Tiger with a driveshaft driven deck? I need to know if anyone has replaced or have done repairs on the drive shaft? (My model # is STT52-22CH)

My drive shaft have been viberating due to worn out u-joints and/or couplers on the shaft. Scag only sells this part as a whole unit but I 've found a place on the internet that carries the couplers and u-joints for replacements. I also been told that these u-joints can actually be found at your local auto parts store but wasn't sure which car it is matched with.

So this leaves me to question if anyone had done this repair before, where did you get the parts from? I just didn't want to drop $360 for the entire shaft if all the repair is to replace the u-joints and or the couplers.

Thank you very much in advance for any help or info. that you can provide.

Andrew

Never had a issue just greased them. I would find a local driveshaft shop and have them do the repair. Otherwise bring the driveshaft in to the auto parts store and they should be able to match it up.

I have done joints on them. Mainly as usual from guys not greasing their mowers. A good auto parts store will match up the joints. Don't expect autozone to be able to. Otherwise try a machine / driveshaft shop to do the repair for you. Should be well under $360
Thanks for the help, I never thought about taking it to a shop and getting it matched up...hummmm, thats a good idea. I am just thinking depending on what the labor is, I may tackle it myself as I am pretty handy when it comes to stuff like this. Did you ended up doing the work yourself, if so would you remember where you've gotten the u-joints from?...just wondering if somebody like autozone won't have it, is there another auto chain may stock them? Thanks!

Also when you reinstall make sure the gearbox bolts are tight and the metal brackets off the deck didn't crack. The added vibs could do damage.

Was just paging through some stuff. We are new to Scag and I remembered this thread. Scag does have U-joint repair kits available for these driveshafts. Just an FYI.

They arent shown in the parts manuals but there is a service bulletin about it.

Anyone who has replaced the universals happen to have the part number for NAPA. I just called a Scag dealer and he said that Scagg doesn't sell them(kinda BS if you ask me ) you have to by the whole drive shaft .
