dumb question I know but does anyone really sit back like that there back is on the whole back rest when mowing? I know I don't and its on any mower I use, I did try to sit back on like 4 lawns and I felt like I was being lazy and mowing time was longer and harder to do.:hammerhead:

No but it's not out of lazyness or lack thereof, it's because when the Z hits a bump the back rest can really smack my back if I'm resting up against it, so I tend to lean forward and away from it to keep from inflicting pain upon myself, it's a bit like riding a horse and that is why I sit forward.

Like Herler, I tend to "roll with the punches" so to speak, on rough ground. Similar to the way you would ride an ATV or a dirt bike, or, yes, I suppose, a horse. Not much of an equestrian, I'm afraid. :)

My wife tends to ride more stiffly, bracing herself with her legs, and the rough lawns bother her back more than mine. I usually sit cross-legged, and seldom put my feet on the rest at the front of the deck.

Sit all the way back legs out. But mowing with a ferris with a air seat i can go full stick no matter what. Lol

i sit slightly leaning forward a bit. my lower back is against the seat but my mid/upper back isn't unless it's just a smooth as silk part of the yard. also hard to push the sticks forward enough when you lean way back. i have the seat adjusted as far forward as it will go too. my feet barely will reach the front angled part of the foot pan so i don't use it. i just put my feet flat on the floor pan. i'm 5'9" tall.

Great thread! I have always wondered the same thing! I am pretty much the same as Weeze. It's kind of a hybrid of lower back against and upper slightly off.... But I am the opposite of you Kelly's because I run Walkers... So when I am going up a hill, I lean back to gain traction because of the way the Walker is set up... it actually feels really good leaning all the way back on a Walker going up a steep hill.... Kind of like a carnival ride!

I sit all the way back, and strap myself in tight with the seat belt. I want to be as much "part of the machine" as possible. I don't want to be jostled about, rather be tight with the machine. I feel like I'm just too loose unless the belt is tight (sometimes start, forgetting to strap in).

My elbows ride hard on the arm rests and perhaps take a small bit of weight and allow me to adjust with the motion of the machine. Also, I have one foot firmly planted on the deck, with the other extended in a relaxed mode. If a large run (> 30 minutes) the feet get switched every few minutes so neither of them fall asleep.

I sit a little forward and also scoot the seat all the way up so I can see better/have more control over the levers.

I have the 2013 X series suspension seat, and I still really don't like sit down riders. Its a soft seat, but I don't like the fact that:

A) I can't see as good off of a rider (I'm average height at 5' 11")
&
B) Your body feels more of the shock compared to a walk behind with a velke.

But obviously a 60" Z is going to smoke a 60" walk behind on large lots.

never paid attention to it til i read this post yesterday so i checked it out when i mowed last night...seat is all the way back and i sit all the way back with my back fully up against the seat with legs extended out on to the top foot rest but legs are still bent, i guess cause i am a bit taller than most
