Trimmer string, round or square?

Sounds like you're using Oregon Gator Magnum round line. Try their Super Twist, and you'll think the round is a waste of time.

Round .095 doesn't hang up inside a Speed Feed head as bad and I only go for darker colored line such as a dark blue or gray. Mowpart.com has a 5 lbs. roll on sale once a year pretty cheap and it's dark blue and usually lasts us all season.

At least this time I didn't order a 5 lb roll--(probably wish I had)!! Of course if it last as long as you say, a 1 lb donut could last this old man a long time!!

Well, yer gonna have to find a way to use it all up, 'cause I ain't so sure the gov't 'll be too happy to get a bunch of trimmer line when they take it under the inheritance tax.payup

Well, maybe I need to tell "the rest of the story"!!

A good friend of mine is one of the bigger LCO's in the area--not huge, but sends out several crews. I maintain most (all) of his handhelds/backpacks. I have somewhat become his "tester" for new equipment, supplies, & misc., he foots the bill (at least most of it) and I get to have the fun! We've been on a mission of finding the "best" trimmer line for him for a while. I keep the cast-offs and he uses the rest! We liked the Oregon Gator Magnum round enough that I bought a 5 lb roll for me!!

I'm not seeing .118" on Oregon's site anywhere. They show .105", then .130", then .155", then .170". Are you sure about the .118", and is it actually Oregon or is it Shindy or RM, though I do not see anything that size on their sites either?

recently i tried some X line and it was okay but either because of my skill level or what, it wasnt any better than the standard stihl round.095. the stihl line was actually cheaper so i just use that now.

My current favorite is the Oregon Magnum Super-Twist Platinum Gatorline .105" in my FS90R.

Doesn't break off at the head in heavy brush as much, and rarely gets jammed in the head.
