I'd prolly have a cooler motor home if I'd followed "Boot's Law" : "Don't connect anything, most people will never know the difference".
If you followed Boot's law, you would not get to see Weathermatic brass nozzles spray that often.

Because the HDPE Marlex material is self-lubricating, it effectively can connect any material to any other material. One place where this property comes in very, very handy is when you need to feed a swing joint from an old brass saddle tee, because they can be fiendishly difficult into which to thread a funny-pipe elbow.
I gotcha now... I'll probably stick with the premade swings though as I like the o-ring inside... Mike - I retract my cramming comment now. *trucewhiteflag*:)

I can attest to the brass saddles being a pits to thread into

Dan's pic is wrong. The Marlex should be the lowest fitting on the head. Being softer, they'll take any shock first and break before more serious damage is done to the head. IMHO
Actually we have had no issues with head damage with this joint. The bottom Marlex shears right off if the head is driven over. I would be hard pressed to say that this joint setup is wrong as this is how just about every set of plans that I've ever seen for a commercial install has it specified.

Being driven over is above the pay grade of most any head. I went with marlex elbows at the head connection to get the most possible movement in response to forces acting on the head.

If being driven over without harm is to be part of a spec, the solution would be something beyond head connections.

When I say driven over I am referring to mowers. We rarely have an issue with vehicles driving over heads and when we do we have much bigger issues than just the irrigation to deal with.

I agree (sorta) with you two: just saying I've had to replace bodies that had taken a hit and forced the sch 80 nip and/or sch 40 ell into the bottom, trashing it. My feeling is replacing Marlex ells (not cheap) are more cost effective than replacing the whole body.
