needing new equipment for boring underneath driveways and sidewalks. Im currently using a mole for boring underneath driveways and for sidewalks we just use the ole rod and sledge hammer and bang a sleeve through. Wanting something new that will get the job done in a timely manner. Please let me know how you guys go about it. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

We had one where the LA poured the drive before we got there to cross.
Brought in a buddy with backhoe & mole. He got about 10 feet and the mole quit. Turned out there were compacted bricks from a previous building that stopped forward progress. Ended up running the main & wire ALL around the house to get to our zones. One of many times I've pointed to the LA and said, "This is NOT on my nickel!"

Our Sk850 Ditch Witch has the same setup for boring attachments
as a dingo. It's a nice setup. You can use the same rods mentioned above
on a Ditch Witch 410 plow or similar. McGlaughlin makes all these products for ditch witch/dingo/vermeer. It's their patent
on the moles and backreamers i do believe.

We use the 10' regular rods and 5' footers for short bore. We like
the regular moles for laterals.
We also love using the 5' auger rods We have large ones and small ones, they will auger out a nice hole up to 3" or better, with no compaction so no worry about damaging concrete or humping asphalt.

You ain't kidding.

Rods suck in general. I only do it when I have to. I stopped subbing for other companies doing bore's. It whoops on the machine to much and involves to much digging for what you can max charge around here.

I'm thinking about buying a nice 2.5 inch mole from Centeral.
Kinda pumped up. The Lindsay would be a perfect fit for it.

What do those setups go for now a days?

So how does any of this apply to rocky soil? I've got a 14' driveway to go under on a project coming up that I'm not entirely sure how I'll approach. I can't trench around due to heritage trees so going under or through is my only real choice.

The mole mini skid attachment looks pretty stellar even though I really try to avoid going under hardscape if I can.

How "nice" is the driveway? You may want to consider renting a concrete saw and cutting a channel across it, install your sleeve, then either patch the concrete or get fancy and install a decorative paver ribbon. A neighbor had that done, and the contractor used the same brick used as a topper on the stone border around the landscape beds and it looks great.
