I have a 29dfi turf tiger going through this right know. Any resolution to the issue?
Guys

I'm having the same issue on an older Scag TT. What was the problem and how was it fixed?

Mine fires up and runs great for 15-20 seconds then starts surging. Key off and start again. Fuel pump builds pressure. Starts and runs 15 seconds and surging again.

I have spark. Fuel pump pumping fuel out at right rate. Pinching return line doesn't fix it. Changed fuel filter and fuel line. Wasn't able to verify fuel pressure. I'm guessing it's a sensor?!?!? I gave up and took it to dealer. Waiting for him to get to it. Any ideas what it might be?

Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to what I believe is the service manual for your engine
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/750689/Kawasaki-Fx1000v-Dfi.html?page=41#manual
I would start reading the DFI section as there is more than one sensor that can cause the condition you posted. Did you attempt to interrogate the ECU to see if there were any codes?

I did not try to mess with computer other than verifying that the terminals weren’t corroded. It wasn’t flashing codes and I didn’t check the sensors for resistance. I guess I hope the dealer actually gets to it and diagnosed it quickly. I guess the MAP or the vacuum pressure sensors could be the culprits.

It is a shame that you did not give it a chance to determine the root cause. Read the manual some more so you have an idea of what the issue was when the dealer tells you what he found.

Walker-I'll read up. I think I need to invest in a fuel pressure gauge. I was heading out of town for spring break and hoping the dealer would have it done by the time I got back. That didn't happen. And if he doesn't get to it tomorrow it will have been 2 weeks and I'll be picking it up to bring it back home to figure it out myself.

You can definitely get some good info with a dvom, test light, and fuel pressure gauge. The Kawasaki manual is really good at providing diagnostic procedures to check out the sensors, ecm etc.

Took it back from the dealer today. Issue was with one of the fuse holders next to the seat. I had previously replaced but one of the connections had gotten wet and corroded. Fixed that and the surging problem was gone! Must have been voltage related.

I know it's an old post but thank God I know at least where to go next. Been stumped with this exact issue.
