Lazer Z E-Series: Cylinder Head Cracking

Hi, everyone!

The title says it all. I have a 2017 Exmark E-Series 60inch mower. It has almost 1700 hours on it, and the cylinder head has cracked four times on it just through normal use.

Nothing on my end. Apparently my dealer has known about this issue and didn’t tell me about it when I purchased the mower new in 2017.

The muffler design to the cylinder head is poor and puts too much pressure on it, and eventually it cracks.

I can’t sell this mower in good conscience. And my dealer hasn’t really done anything to truly fix the issue. Once my mower is out of warranty, it will just be a huge price gouge.

Anyone have issues with this series of mower?

Also: I have a Kawasaki engine. I hear Kohler has a much better design for their engines.

Do you know what engine it has on it ?

The reason I ask, is we have 2 X series with FX 801 engines....Both from 2019

Do you know what the symptoms are before the failure, any kind of warning, oil leak, lost compression, etc., on your 2019 engine ? It's something I want to keep an eye on.

FWIW, this would be a Kawasaki problem, not an Exmark problem.....

No idea on symptoms. Guy just bought the mower a few days ago. I realize it's a engine issue not an exmark issue.
Are you saying he bought it brand new a few days ago? If that's the case then he should be taking it back where he bought it and yes unless the owner did something to it, it should be covered under warranty.
And it very well could be an Exmark issue. It's possible the engine was sent to Exmark with no exhaust and Exmark installed their own.

Just discovered I have the same problem. 2019 Lazer with a FX751V. Changed Valve cover gasket and it still was leaking. Looked again and discovered the crack in the head. Looks like from the muffler bracket putting too much pressure on it. I have 800 hours so the mower is still under warranty through exmark, but the Kawasaki warranty is only 3 years. Its been 4. I guess I'm SOL.
