I've been posting progress all along the way with photos & comments. The light green spots are GOOD. It's new KBG where there was little to no grass before. The KBG is very light due to it being new/small/tender. Lawn 1 has more light green than lawn 2 because it was in worse condition when started. I took some photos from lawn 2 deck so folks could see lawn from up top and really see those spots come in. Lawn 1 didn't have an area I could get a photo from up above. The KBG will eventually turn deep blue. Most likely not until next spring/summer.

Here are the post#s of photos so you can see the progress (or just page through):
  • 2,3: prepped
  • 31: right after slice seeding
  • 49: 10 days in, just seeing a little germination
  • 53,54: 21 days in
  • 65,66: 28 days in
  • 69,70: 31 days in right after 1st mowing. No more misting.
  • 81,82: 42 days in right after 2nd mowing.

I do not understand this exactly.
Which is before and after?
And there are light green spots...is this because of poa annua?
I updated all Lawn 1 & Lawn 2 photos to contain DAY # on them so it is easy for folks to follow along. One needs to go back to DAY 0 (prep day) or DAY 1 (slice seeding day) to see before photos.

You are welcome. I've learned a lot from folks on this forum so thought I'd give a detailed progress report on this slice seeding (1st time I've done a slice seeding) so others can monitor along.
There are some weak/problem spots but I'm hoping they continue to fill in. All in all I'm very happy with the results.

I don't do slice sleeding much here we have generally a sandy acidic soil but have used it where hard orr compacted soil had poor seeding results

David designed that machine for great seed bed prep and soil contact I think he said it's his best yet

Final photos for fall '22 taken on 11/08/22. I will update & end this thread Memorial Day '23. I expect the bluegrass to fill in more next spring, especially if both are fertilized. All in all, I'm very happy with the results. A few weak spots in both lawns, but both lawns show MAJOR improvement! The weak spots on both lawns have continued to fill in & I expect both to do so next spring. Fertilize!!!

Anyone have issues with belt stretch and breakage on the Stinger seeder? I've had that happen after 15 or so hours. And you can't replace just one of the reel drive belts you have to do both else the old one will be stretched more than the new one and the old one will keep flying off.

Server errors uploading photos. Will try posting both lawn photos again later today...
If I click on a Lawn 1 photo, it should enlarge for a better view BUT not all do so for me.

Lawn 2 really came out nice. Lawn 2 got an extra dose of fertilizer fall '22, Lawn 1 opted out.
Lawn 2 got fertilized early May '23 also. I suspect Lawn 1 was not fertilized early May '23 (owner took over his lawn fall '22 and said he's not a believer in fertilizer). :(

Fertilizer + Water for a lawn = Food + Water for a human. (y)
