Hello,

Its time for me to buy a new mower I have always used toro and nothing else but a local dealer near me is selling the bunton 48" hydro mowers for 4K. My questions is would this be comparable to a toro or exmark or would i be better off spending the extra $$?

I had a 36" Bunton hydro for all of 2 weeks, so I'm probably not one to talk on this, but if I were you, I'd steer away from pistol grips. After a few hours of using that thing I think you'll regret it because they hurt! ECS, T-Bar, or z turn controls are what I would look for if I were you. That's just my opinion though, but I think others would agree.

Floating decks are pretty important because different lawns need to be mower at different heights. You'll get some "knock-em-down" jobs where it needs to be mowed at 3" and some lawns that get a lot of sun and need to be mower at 4"... I prefer the fixed deck because its easier to change the height than the mower...

you should be able to adjust the tension pretty easily
Mine was smaller, and I didn't have it long enough to adjust the tension, but from what I remembered, it hurt...
Yeah the smaller one was to tight and hurt but the other one had a lot of the tension taken out and you could use it all day with no pain or sore hand's.

I like not having much tension because the machine is easier to handle in tight turn's and the speed is better controlled....

I have an older model 48" Bunton with pistol grips. It has a 15 HP Kohler motor. This was the machine that I bought to gfet my business off the ground. I have also purchased a Great Dane Super Surfer and use that as my primary machine. There have been a couple things that I have had to repair on the Great Dane and the Bunton has saved me on more than one occasion. It is an awesome machine...I take care of all my mowers very carefully...take care of the Bunton and you can't go wrong.

I have a 48" Bunton that I used to get started in this business. It is an awesome machine. I take care of it meticulously. I have also picked up a Great Dane Super Surfer that has become my primary cutting machine, but the Bunton has saved me on more than one occasion. I also can use the 48" to get into all the gates that I ever have to cut, so it is a solid machine.

The pistol grips are NOT that bad. I could ride all day on it and it would not affect my final product in cutting. It also leaves a pretty nice stripe at the end of the day too...without a striping kit.

HOWEVER, $4,000 seems a little high. I was less than $3,000 out the door including jungle wheels and grass catcher.
