Any cons to a Toro Grandstand?

So I thought I was all set. I purchased a certain manufactures stand on unit 2 weeks ago. Still hasn't been delivered. Was told it "might" be on back order and could be 6-8 weeks. Mowing season has pretty much started. I'm really frustrated to say the least. Not going to mention the manufacturer because I don't like bad mouthing anyone.

So, I called up a different dealer who sells Toro, Exmark and Scag. The guy said he could get me a 2014 36" Toro Grandstand that just never sold, brand new never used for $6701 after taxes. Is that a decent deal #1 and #2 are there any issues with a Toro Grandstand that should make me look at a different model or year?

The price seems like it may be a little hi to me. I seem to recall my dealer having a 2015 - 52 inch Grandstand on the floor last year for about that amount of money. I wish I could remember exactly. Try negotiating with your dealer you might be surprised how well you can do. I ordered a new 48" Grandstand last year and was able to negotiate a much better deal than I was first offered.

Maybe someone else can help you with the rest of your question as I have very few hours on mine. It's been a great machine though.

Do Not buy a grandstand, they are absolute Junk. I was just promised the word by my local dealer (Bison Turf in Tonawanda NY) so I bought 3 new 2016 models and after using these things for 2 hours I was begging for my Wrights back. They basically said haha "a sale is a sale". Its cuts terribly, left uncut blades throughout my lawns and they were double cut!! I have to go back with the string trimmer on each lawn and get these lines.. thats sad toro. I then called toro and they said they would back me up and stand behind their product and the very next day the said "were out of it, its up to the dealer". This was a 28K purchase that im now stuck with, and on the very first day I received 2 complaints.. if I keep these I will run my business into the ground. They are solid machines and I can tell they are built nicely but the engineering and field testing just wasn't there. I guess thats what you get when you design a mower on CAD instead of taking feedback from actual users. After buying my first grandstand in 2008 and being in the repair shop every week.. literally.. and then this. I will never buy another Toro product and I urge everyone does the same. Be careful of the dealers, they will promise you whatever you want to hear but as soon as you walk out that door they wash their hands of you. They could at least buy you dinner before they **** you. Just look at this garbage of a cut..

Do Not buy a grandstand...
Ouch, I feel your frustration. Hang in there.

While I don't yet have any first-hand experience, I will tell you that I've been researching stand-ons like mad for a few weeks now, if anyone has ever made a comment about a stand-on mower, I've probably read it.

They all get criticism for something (except the Gravely - seriously, does anyone have a criticism about the Gravely???!!!)

The Toro's criticism is usually around the engine and its mounting to the deck. it doesn't get many negative reviews for cut quality, especially compared to the Wright you are coming from. So I'd have to agree with Reedo that something isn't right with your setup.

What size machines have you got?

What height are you cutting at z7?

Looks like a tee box or maybe a putting green height.

Are your Grandstands the new models or leftover older ones?

Because I have 3, and while they haven't been trouble free, they are great mowers and overall I have been very pleased. And while I haven't asked my dealer to take them back, my dealer has stood behind the mowers. Under warranty or not, I get a demo of some kind.

I find it a bit peculiar to have your first post stating something is the biggest POS mower ever made, when thousands of others have and are using them without the issues you have. Not saying you're lying, just stating it's out of the norm.

I have to admit that my 2015 48” Grandstand has done that too, but it was on a soft and uneven lawn that was being cut too short (2.5”) in the spring, just this year.

I haven’t noticed that problem before at higher settings such as 2.75 and 3”. It kind of looks to me like your mower was bouncing at the time.

One post......no further details and no rebuttal.

And hasn't been on since.

By all means, take the advice of the 1 post wonder. lol

I ran one of the '16 Grandstands for a couple hours. Cut quality is far better than the older models. Much faster, which didn't really speed my time up as I don't normally mow at full speed. I was quite impressed, pretty sure I'll be putting my name on one of the new Multi-Force models after running this one.

I've had my 36" since 2011 and haven't had issues with it. This whole it's not a true floating deck is not a "problem" for me, I'm still able to cut at my heights that I want for different properties. For me only bc the engine is on top of the deck doesn't make it a floating deck is a bunch of nonsense but I'm not going to argue with someone with what they think. I also have a 2014 48" and also has been great mower overall. The original fs engine was not good eventually was able to get toro and Kawi to upgrade it for $100 more to their efi and has been good since. No scalping no issues so far. If I was to complain anything is that I wish it would go a bit faster but for the normal size properties the top speed is not really needed. It's when we have bigger properties that I wish it had more. It lacks speed compare to our bobcat quickcat 61" that we have. It handles hills great as well. Also, I demoed the gravely's and was not impressed their cut lacked highly to our toro. Everyone is going to have their preference so demo and make sure the mower is set up properly with pitch wise and good blades as well. Every mower is good, just like car brands and models you'll have some you like he best some you'll be able to stand and some that you just won't like.

Actually, the new GS is almost totally redesigned. The engine is no longer attached to the deck. I thought it cut even better than the older models. Personally, calling the previous models non-floating is bunk. It most definitely is not a fixed deck. Maybe it doesn't float as much as they like, but it does float.

It is also faster, 10 MPH.

I'm getting a Multi-Force, should take delivery this week.

pretty neat. I hope this catches on to other brands and models. As far as the grandstand is concerned, I was never blown away by it. 2012-13 model 52". At the time didn't compare to even my great dane esp for price. I like my mowers to be built like tanks first. If I had to by another stander at this point Id prob have to go with Scag. You want to be asking How the ride quality is?, that's huge with a stander. not just cut
