Have any of you installed the fertilizing tank/system to fertilize the lawn through the lawn sprinkler system? I have heard of it but never seen it implemented in my area.

that's ironic, i talked to my supplier about that just last week...he said no one really does it anymore...it was more popular years ago, like in the 80's i think he said...i've never seen it or even heard of anyone doing it in my area, but i'm only 27, didn't start lawn care until 2000 and irrigation until 2010

Pretty standard in AG

Installed a handful, service a handful more. Not a big fan of them. Only install on systems with very even coverage, otherwise fertilizer also gets spread unevenly. Use an RP, no PVB. Use an extra large valve box to surround it, so it can be taken out if need be. I went to one the other day where the unit was installed in a hole, then a box put around it. Box opening is too small to get the unit out.

I would not recommend them. Reasons being most systems I deal with do not distribute evenly and even if they did there would be the issue of the time it takes to empty the lines of non-fertilized water, how would you know when you were fertilizing or not. Also fert delivered in liquid form is less forgiving than granular.

This is exactly what I was gonna say. so many systems that water extremely inefficiently would just spell disaster.

On the other hand, makes one more conscience of many aspects of the trade that are taken for granted or ignored.

Great thing about AG is that everything is huge in comparison to landscape irrigation. AG pumps, thousands of gallons per minute, thousands of heads, millions of dollars of equipment and product which requires that mistakes be few and far between.

there is one system in our area I know of. winterized it a few years ago for him(not sure why I don't any longer). seemed kinda cheaply made for the parts, but his lawn looks great and he uses it still himself. he also has a well designed system.
