I do a numerous ballfields along with a few 5-8 acre complexes and then our large mowing consist of 40 acre complex up to 180 acre complex. We run 52, 60, 72 and two toro WAM machines. Now I want more production. Our ballfields, soccer fields, football fields demand a lot of time and attention. So I am thinking to keep the striped look, I am considering the toro 4500-D, or the toro/exmark 96 inch zero turn. The 4500-D is 9ft cutting and each deck floats on its own. The toro/exmark is back to true ZTR with a larger deck. I am not sure if I go new on the 4500-D as they are not cheap. The toro/exmark machine I would go new on as there are not a lot of used ones out there. I am looking for feedback in regards to ownership, comparable sized properties and or machine choice and why.

Only thing I’ve got is hours on a Toro Reelmaster. It was a 5000-something. Used it when I worked at the prep school for our stadium (football/soccer/lacrosse), baseball, and softball fields. Really enjoyed using that machine and watching the grass shoot out of those blades like confetti.

Only have experience with the 4000D's the Jacobsen 6010 ( 11' cut as well) along with the toro 5910 and Jacobsen 9016T.

They do OK for cut wise, but certainly do not stripe, the 4000D's are not a cheap machine, and those 4500's should leave alot better cut, but there are more wear points. I would hope to be using one of those machines on mainly smooth terrain.

I ran a 4700d as a rough cutter a few years back at a 45 hole golf course. Its a workhorse but require a lot of maintenance to keep them cutting good. I took it some places my boss wasn't super happy about but saved tons of time over the small mowers. Like most equipment you need to learn what it can and can't do and what conditions to use it in.

Even if you are not planning on buying new I would talk to the sales rep from a couple different manufacturers. Might even be able to set up demo and get feel for what works on your properties.

Waiting on a demo 4500 I believe. I own a 455-D yet and a 4100. 4100 D is a lot better machine than the 455-d but the 455 holds on every day. Not a cheap mower but productive. Yes they are a lot of maintanence though. I am wanting production on the soccer, base, soft, foot ball fields we all mow along with practice fields that get mowed as well. The 96 inch exmark/toro may have there place but that's a lot of grass to get rid off. As mentioned above, I'm going to look into the jac machines as well.
