Im starting this thread to see how large of lawns you guys are mowing. My biggest lawn is a 12 acre mansion. It takes me and another guy 3 hours to mow, trim, edge, and blow on a John Deere 727 with a 54" and a John Deere 1435 with a 72" and a John Deere G15 walk behind.

according to the size of his mowers, he can mow close to 6 acres an hour between the two of them. That leaves an hour for trimming and blowing. My guess would be $350 also.

According to Scag's website, their 61" deck can mow 23.7 acres in 8 hours. Or 2.9 acres per hour.

I mowed 2.5 acres today at one of my stops. The property has 14 trees and shrubs to mow around 4 are huge hollies and one rubber tree that spans 40ft across! Then a big hill in the back that accounts for over an acre that is all sloped. I had it finished in a hour and 20 minutes! No trimming this week. I trim every other week at that stop. :D

hi,

The longest stretch in the front yard is a quater mile long:) its seems like it takes forever! We get $300. We have another lawn that we get $250 for but its spread out and all on hills.
That is a beautiful piece of property with long straight runs. It would blow your mind to see how fast I could cut the grass on that property with my Super Z. When you cut at 15 mph it makes a difference you can't imagine until you experience it.

Running 15 mph you cut a distance of 79,200 feet in one hour, divide that by 60 minutes means you are cutting 1320 feet per minute. That is cutting the 1/4 mile run you are talking about in 1 minute. Think about that in comparison to how long it is taking you with your machine. This has to be on level ground and not cutting overgrown grass or you can drop back a couple mph with ease. When the grass is maintained normally it will cover that area very quickly.

puppypaws, we mow that front lawn with a john deere 1435 diesel with a 72inch deck. it cruises at 12mph through all the grass. I think next year we are gonna trade in on a 997 with a 72inch deck so we can use it other places and so we can get a stripping kit and strip that lawn:) when the house was built they spent thousands of dollars to get the lawn leveled. It is so smooth and flat! in the front there is a really steep hill that i cant even go up with the 727 so i have to mow it sideways! :) Theres a sprinkler system around the house but i would love to have them put a sprinkler system on the whole thing! hehe so we could fertilize it so it would be super green!

My biggest has over 30 acres of turf. It's all cut up into smaller lawns all over the property.
It has a 3 spur rail yard that I keep the weeds out of. But they just paved it so it's just a matter of keeping the cracks clear of weeds.
My son and I will start mowing in the morning. He'll go one direction "trimming" with the 72" while I start the ball field & front lawn with the big mower. I'll not lay eyes on him but a couple of times before lunch, about the time we're finishing.
It's all fine cut mowing, we keep it at 3". There's a 10 acre field in back I sub out to a guy to keep it bush-hogged.
We apply fert & herbicides on the front lawns. It takes about 30 yards of mulch for the beds. Pruning shrubs takes us about 3 days.
This is my 30th year maintaining this property.

This isn't my biggest account, just the biggest in one place. We have several big accounts.

That 1435 with the diesel want drop speed and at 12 mph you can cover 1320', the quarter of mile you are talking about in 1 min. 15 sec. What does this statement mean "it seems like it takes forever". Cutting a mile length with turn around time in 6 minutes is very fast cutting to most people. You will be cutting .73 acres in 6 minutes on long flat runs so what do you mean it takes forever, not with that mower?

i do 38 residental accounts, my two Biggest ones are a 1/2 acre each. i dont like anything more than that . there is ALOT more money to be made in the smaller accounts 1/2 acre and under, then in the BIG multi acre properties. so i'll leave those HUGE ones to the BIG Companies who can afford to send a 3 or 4 man crew and 3 or 4 pieces of equipment out for a single property.

My guess on price for the 12 acres with trimming would be $650.

I understand he gets it done quick, but with 3 mowers going. I get $350 for a 7 acre lot that I cut by myself, no trimming, and I get done in 3 hours.
We'd mow that nice, flat field for $300 any time.
