I know you see tons of companies using trimmer racks. I'm sure some are better than others. I bought a set from tractor supply. My first one years ago and put them on a small trailer. The weight of the motor actually broke the shaft. I'm sure it was because it was a Husqvarna homeowner weedeater with that long plastic piece near the trigger. However, I put eight foot tool boxes on my truck which allowed me to keep my weedeaters out of the weather.

 

Ive been thinking about that rack as well, but have held off because some complain about broken shafts on their trimmers from the stress of the power heads bouncing. I think I read somewhere that you can get an engine support for that type of rack, which eliminates the stress on the shaft. That may help with the trimmers bouncing, but may not prevent the actual trimmer rack from bouncing around.

 

I now use an Isuzu NPR dovetail truck but when I use to use a pickup truck and trailer, I put a camper top on my truck to solve this problem and this also kept my weedeaters out of the weather.

 

If it's on a trailer it could be the tires or the wheels...

I will just stick with my little truck with a topper. I store 2 trimmers, 1 hand blower, 1 backpack blower and my combo unit inside and they look like new.

 

The cheap rake we had allowed trimmers to spin. We would get to the site and find triggers broke and such. Bought the extreme and it stopped the spinning but did have a shaft snap. We just set them in the bed of the truck now

 

Do yourself a favor and buy from the source and save money.

I have the 3 trimmer set up, I have no issues, one of my trimmers is a 1998 model redmax..... going into its 3rd summer on this rack..... no issues.
Another is a 2011 echo, going into its 3rd season.
The last one is a 2012 echo.

My trimmers were kept the same way and every year after I scrub down the shafts, they still look new. I never painted a weed eater housing.

 

Nice that they added the option of the engine support.

 

I have the extreme racks, had them installed earlier this summer. I have mix feelings about them. My 2 trimmers seem to ride ok on it, but my stick edger looks like it is going to break in half. The ease of use is a huge positive, unfortunately trimmers or stick.edgers with bigger power heads could be at risk. I am stuck with mine, they were a fathers day gift, on top of that my neighbor spent alot time fabricating angle iron just to install them correctly (that was another issue). I may have been better off with the cheap racks from tractor supply that I had previously. Once my stuck edger breaks in half then I can take these racks off of my trailer without hurting my wife's or neighbor's feelings.

I am just starting out and maybe I am still a newb...but to me I just don't want my gear exposed. I have a nice weatherguard tool box on my truck that locks very securely. I purchased the Stihl Kombi set up for my trimmer and edger needs. I bought it specifically so it would break down and fit in my tool box. I am in the process of fabbing up a mount for them in the floor of the tool box with 2x4 blocks and a fishing pole holder (old school boat mounted foam ones). Maybe my idea sucks, only time will tell but I sure feel better with it being locked in the tool box. My only reservation is the gas fumes...dunno if this will be an issue or not.

And then one day after a few years you will tell your helper on a hot summer day to just throw them in the back of the truck so you can go!

Having your stuff locked up in a tool box is great when you only have a few accounts but as you grow you will want to be able to grab and go, this is where you will be able to see the difference.
