Ok so there is a dixon dealer about 5 mins away from my house. Now ive heard a bunch of bashing about them here on LS. I am getting my first mower for next season. So i checked the website and they're mowers dont look half bad? I was looking at the 34z and it seems to be a decent machine. Now come with the bashing! Any pros to dixon? Cut quality? Any pics of lawns done with a dixon? What makes these mowers so bad? Ive heard of flimsy decks but the website states they are 7 guage? Engines seem up to par? Not sure on hydraulics. So let me know, the good, the bad, and of course THE UGLY!!! lol Thanks for reading guys any and all help is appreciated.

i have learned not to listen to guys on here when it comes to mower selection. Of course the guys that dont own dixon on here are gonna bash them but the guys that do own them are gonna say their the best mower out there. Everybody has their own opinions on mower. I would call that dealer and go see them to set up a demo with that particular mower and then you can see for yourself what type of machines they are. hope that helps!:waving::waving::)

Currently Dixon makes a dang good mower from what I have seen. The bashing comes from the 5023 series and prior days. I have a 50" Dixon that I am overall happy with, but got a 223 Grasshopper a couple weeks ago because for whatever reason I felt the need to dispose of lots of money:hammerhead:. Only reason I didn't get a 52" Kodiak is because my main Dixon dealer told me it would be $2200 for the grass catcher, and I had already bought the Hopper before the other one told me $1300.

My dad has a 2003 model 6025 Dixon. It is a 60" cut with 25 Kohler. Has 1285 hrs on it. Only problems have been minor(ONE Spindle, few PTO Belts, throttle cable)other than that it has been awesome. This is the 3rd Dixon he has owned in the last 25 years.

Would you take a dixon over your TANK?

The only reason I did not buy a Dixon is dealer location. The nearest Dixon dealer is about 65 miles away. While I have a Cub dealer less than 3 miles away. As far as the cut they both are good both built very sturdy. Both decks are very tough.

Now heres something to think about. The same dealer offers gravely as well. Im looking for a compact ztr. Which is better? both 34 in. Also what are the prices?
That's a good question. Looking at the spec sheet for both, it's pretty close.

They have basically the same engines and hydros. Gravely claims a little higher top speed.

There were only a few difference that jumped out at me.

Gravely holds 2.2 gallons more fuel
Dixon has larger drive tires
Dixon has greaseable spindles. They are sealed on the Gravely.
3year warranty on the Dixon, 2 year on the Gravely
Gravely weighs 725, Dixon weighs 515 (not sure who has the advantage here...)

Anyone here familiar with both? I'm very familiar with the BlackBear but haven't had the chance to use the Gravely.

Where is S-Man? He's bound to come along shortly a tell you all about his BlackBear experience. Let's just say he's not a Dixon fan. He likes his eXmarks. S-Man, you out there?

JMiller08 - Good luck with your decision. It's going to be tough.

I have a Dixon and it has been my main mower for 3 years now. It is a Ram Mag 50" with the 20 hp Honda on it. It was purchased when the Ram Mag line was commercial. The new ones are made residential.

With the exception of the normal wear and tear items (blades tires spindles) I have had zero failures. The parts I mention were not failures either just things that were wearing out and were replaced before failure. I like it and would buy another.

Get a test ride from your dealer and run it in your world to see if it works for you.

Dixons will be history in a ferw years.........my opinion.................the dealer that rents space in my warehouse says thats ince Husq took over its been all downhill and serious price increases--heavy parts delays---poor rep support------the bigger Dixons aren't in the same league as Exmarks or Scags or Bad Boys--but sure are priced that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We have had the opportunity several times to try out larger Dixon units in the real world on a truck doing full schedule of high end residential mowing------compared to Scags, Exmarks, and the new Walker Super B they totally just suck.............fact--not opinion---

"Fact-not opinion"

In your area and on your lawns. May not be the case all over.

Again I say, get a demo and try it out in your neighborhood.

I was a Gravely dealer before selling my store. I had a chance to compare and operate both the dixon 34 and the Gravely commercial 34Z. Without a doubt, the Gravely is the better machine. It really makes the dixon look like a cheap built piece of junk. The Gravely also had a lot better cut in our mowing conditions. See if you can demo each machine and then decide.

I have a RAM 50", it's the newer model that is a residential mower. I have used it the whole year on 27 residential accts. It has held up with no problems at all. When I first bought it i was just starting out and just wanted something cheap to get me through the year and it has actually turned out to be a good machine. I am thinking about buying a different ztr though since I won a couple commercial bids and dont want to over work the dixon too much. It will become my back up mower. The cut quality on my dixon is very good if I keep the blades sharp and the deck leveled. I was looking at mowers today for next year and ran across bad boy which I have never seen before. Looked like a very solid mower. 60" pup series, 30hp Kohler and suspension seat-$6795.

I would definitely keep looking around. I've never heard of a mower to have a wing until I saw it on the BB site. How does a wing on the back of a mower help make you money? BB needs to worry about other things like how to keep it from falling apart.
