Like it or don't, Amzoil was a very profitable licensing agreement for those involved some 35 years ago.

Any experience any of us relate will be purely anecdotal. But I will share mine - and that is that I believe most modern oils are reasonably decent. I have quite a bit of two stroke equipment in my mowing trailer - two chainsaws, four dedicated trimmers, three split shaft attachment units, two backpacks, and two hedge trimmers. All of it is the highline stuff from Husky and Stihl. My crew uses this stuff pretty extensively. My shop is located a few hundred feet down the road from an Ace Hardware store. I walk down the oil aisle right past all the flashy marketed Amsoil straight to the "Ace brand" two-stroke oil which is inexpensive. I mix at the ratio called by the equipment manufacturer, which is 50:1. I've never had an engine fail. I also just use pump gas with 10% ethanol. No problems. I own a nice Polaris snowmobile and I've run just about whatever in that machine. Th only time it had Polaris Blue full syn was when it came off the showroom floor. WalMart Super-Tech has been totally fine; I've run outboard 2-stroke oil in it...heck, I had a stockpile of old Lawn-Boy ashless 2-cycle oil in the metal cans which I ran through it. Never ever had a problem after doing this for many years and thousands of miles now. Maybe its my climate, but I've never been much of a believer in the boutique oils.
