Echo trimmer line?

I know there are trimmer line threads but I couldn’t find anything really up to date so I have a very quick question. I bought a new echo trimmer a few days ago and the line that was in it was black with a little white or gray and it felt really rough if you ran your finger and thumb down it. But it cut better than anything I’ve ever used! Was very quiet and the crabgrass just melts away with it. Can anyone tell me what line echo uses in their new trimmers? I figured it was black diamond but it seemed more round than diamond shaped. Thanks!

Rotary .095 Vortex is what I use. Excellent, durable trimmer line. Here is a thread someone else just started about Rotary 'Copperhead' which I believe is the exact same line. I am on the end of a spool from 4 years ago so just ordered/received a new Rotary Vortex 'Copperhead' spool yesterday. The item number on new and old versions are the same.

I bought two new Echo trimmers this year with that black twisted line. I bought one roll of it to try. I didn’t like it at all. Still haven’t used it. I’m not sure it was the shape as much as the size. I run .105” line and it was .095”. I run Do-it Best red “star” or “plus” or some shape red .105” line and just love it. Holds up really well. I honestly never would have known, but I ran out of line one day and ran to the closest hardware store to buy some to finish working. That’s what I grabbed. Liked it so well, I just stuck with it.

So what didn’t you like about it? And you say you tried it afterwards, what is the line called?

Rotary Vortex user here also.

About the crabgrass.............depending on your location you should see it beginning to weaken and die off soon. Tennessean here and crabgrass is beginning to weaken a bit and will be largely done in the next 6 weeks or so.
Not here in Missouri, I mean yes the plant will wane but it will seed and seed and seed so it puts up the seed heads every week until the first freeze. Or it just finally gets too cool.

That’s what I thought it was too since it being an echo trimmer and that line is made by echo but this stuff had not much shape, and it wasn’t smooth if you ran your fingers down it. Kinda felt “hairy” or like the part that sticks to Velcro. Weird. But I thought it cut superb. A lot better than Stihl line. Or the ugly line we were using. I want line that allows me to move at a steady speed and not have to brush over things over and over to get it cut down. I don’t even care if I use a lot of it.
Thanks!
I am using .095 but for years I used .105. It could have been the type of line but the .105 wore down just as quickly and I would run out just as often because of less feet being rolled into the head. I am solo doing too much work for one person,(I do have help 2 days a week) so I want something that cuts and cuts quickly to improve my productivity and efficiency. I know adding line often takes time too but we are overrun right now with crabgrass and something that looks like wild lespedeza, buffalo grass, Bermuda, among other varieties, which all of it together makes a carpet and is extremely tough, thanks to heat and humidity and recent rains. I don’t like spending useless unnecessary time with trimming. The line that was in that new trimmer did this. It just melted things away and I could go at a walk. I’ll make some calls next week and see if anyone can tell me what that was.

I stopped at Home Depot today for a spool of Black Diamond and thought of this thread.

I tried to look at the trimmers to see what was loaded on them, but (a) they were all locked behind cages, and (b) there were only a few curved shaft trimmers and some edgers - everything else sold out.

I didn't see anything for sale other than the orange Crossfire and the Black Diamond.
The curved shaft trimmers had orange string in them.

I recently bought a new Echo as well, and I noticed that the pre-loaded line seems to last much longer than what I’m used to. I seem to seldom have to bump the head. I have several spools of different brands laying around, so I’m not comparing against one brand. I need to buy some more of this stuff!

The last word I got from the store that I purchased the trimmer from was that it’s black diamond line. So I bought some but it’s not that. I hate that stuff, way too stiff so it flips rocks so bad, doesn’t cut as well either. The line that was in that trimmer (see if you agree with me or not) was sorta fuzzy and didn’t really even have a shape like square or twisted or anything. But it cut so good.

do you have any of yours left? And could get a picture of it on here? I didn’t think to save any from mine and when it ran out I didn’t even save the little piece.

OK, I went to the Echo website.
Finding any of their string is nearly impossible.
I typed "Black Diamond" in the search, assuming it would get me someplace where I could check out other line that they sell. Nope.
Here's the results

Every single trimmer has Black Diamond loaded according to the specs.

Maybe you got some top secret research and development stuff that slipped out by accident.

That’s what I’m thinking haha. I thought all along it was black diamond line but after I bought some, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. you can feel the definite “twist” shape to the black diamond line even after it’s been used but with that stuff it felt “fuzzy” almost like Velcro and had no twist or square shape to it, it was round. Had a little white or gray color mixed with the black. It was also very thin, didn’t look like .095 but I think it probably was. Really weird.

Guess it will remain a mystery.

Thanks for your input.

Could it be the battery trimmer string
It's green though
