I've got a 12 x 6 (14 w/v-nose) rear ramp, front side door trailer. While I don't have a million dollars worth of stuff in it, I'd still like to keep it. The coupler is secured with a 2-5/16" Master No-Tow that ratchets into the ball retainer of the coupler as well as a grade 9 pad lock through the latch hole. It'll take a cut off wheel to get those off, so I'm not too worried about someone driving away with it. The rear ramp is locked with grade two grade 9 locks as well. My concern is the relatively flimsy RV type door on the right front side of the trailer. It would break open with a can opener. My first thought, having a lot of car audio experience, is to just install a car alarm with the appropriate sensors so it deploys before anybody can get a crowbar in the door and do any damage to the trailer. Since it won't be going through the ignition, brakes, etc, I can get a complete system for around $100.00. I think I'd need two door sensors and one shock or mercury switch to make the side door sensitive enough to deploy BEFORE anyone has a chance to get started with a crowbar and damage things. Has anyone done anything similar? The current draw unless activated is nearly nothing and I can easily run it off a battery that receives avcharge whenever the lights are connected. Opinions appreciated. Thanks.
