It's a 30 degree slope. I can't use the stander on all of it. I should be able to do most of it with it though after its initial cut. It's a quarter mile length of drainage ditch. The total area is about an acre. I'm only
Doing one side of it too. A walk behind brush cutter and two guys weed eating Should finish it in and 1.5 hours (4.5 man hours) the other acre I have to mow is flat and will take the same time as the ditch due to more weedeating and cleanup. (4.5 man hours) total job time 9 man hours. I always over estimate and add profit, so I figure about 12 man hours total with the walk behind cutter.

Doing it with weedeaters will probably take 9 man hours on the ditch and 4.5 man hours on the other acre. 13.5 total hours. So I would overestimate to about 16 man hours.

On a jobs that I don't normally do I always add a fudge factor to make sure I don't screw myself.

$500-$600 for 16 man hours is good and $500-$600 for 12 man hours- rental is even better.

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to doubt others. We're all professionals here. If for some odd reason I don't make money with that price, then It's a lesson learned and I don't do it again.

I'll let yall know after I take care of it Monday or Tuesday.

Yep, your right about the $ part. There's an old saying "a lesson learned hard is a lesson learned well".....but maybe that won't be the case. One thing about it, you'll know after the 1st time.

Let us know. Stan

mow it or i wouldn't do it. mow it with the deck all the way up the first time then go back over it with the deck lower.

if it's too steep to mow i would pass on the job. i'm not gonna trim 1/4 mile ditch in 100+ degree heat. it's not gonna happen. :)

That does look pretty mean. But, i'm curious how the balance of the hand held part would be. Might be working harder to keep the blade end up do to the imbalance. If they got that figured out, I think it would be awesome.

As someone else said I would mow it with the deck at full height, then go back over it a half inch lower. Weedeat whatever you can't mow. Raising the deck to the max does wonders in tall grass that would otherwise be unmowable. You'll leave stringers, but the second mow will take care of most of those. If you weedeat or use a walk behind trimmer on the whole thing your gonna leave such long clippings that it'll still be tough to mow when you go back in a couple of weeks.

It's gonna look like crap anyway you do it, I would be up front with the customer about that. They likely don't care or they wouldn't have let it get that tall in the first place, but I would still let them know that it's gonna take some time to get it back in shape.

Your right, they don't care what it looks like. I'm renting a walk behind brush cutter. I just got my stander and I dont know what type of debris is in the grass. There could be anything in there since its at a construction site. So once it gets cut down, I'll use my stander if I can. It looks like a little over 20 man hours counting drive time for the first time and probably about 12 man hours after that. I'll probably charge $600 the first time and give them a price around $450 for every other week or $600 for once a month

Well, how did it work out for you?
Worked out well. The brush cutter was useless though. The slope was too steep and it was terrible slow. The slope was only about 10-15 degrees. I thought the whole thing was about 30 degrees because the front part was, but the rest was not bad at all. I cut most of it with my stander and weed eater the rest. $550 the first time and $450 every other time it's about 10 man hours of work from now on.

Awesome. Glad it all worked out. Well except for the brushcutter not doing it's job. i'm kind of surprised. I knew it would be slow but, if you are cutting tall overgrowth, that is usually expected. O'well. you got it under control now.

Yeah, slow was expected but it was to difficult to keep it straight. I used my stander with the deck all the way up and then lowered it and cut it again. Now I'll take one guy with me and be there for 4-5 hours and have it done.
