I'm a new member here but have enjoyed learning from your collective expertise. I have a 48" Ferris 1500 Z, model number 5900680 with only 175 hours on it. Last year a stick severed both wires going to the PTO clutch, a Warner mag clutch, Ferris part number 5218–134. I was able to temporarily repair by putting two screws into the clutch at the point of where the wires were severed and then put terminals on the ends of the pigtail and reconnected. The repair work perfectly until the end of last season and about 10 hours this year and it suddenly stopped again. I discovered a blown 20 amp fuse and replaced and it worked again for about five hours at which time it failed again and I've been unable to get it to work again. I'll check the voltage with a multimeter and everything checked out fine. I removed the clutch and direct wired it to a battery but only get a faint response from the clutch and not enough to activate the blade. My thought is that they coil is bad. I would welcome any advice you have at this point. If the recommendation is to replace the clutch should I go back with the Warner or another brand such as Extreme? Many thanks!
