Is a 60 worth it?

So we are going to make the jump over to Deere. Im going to be slowly phasing out the Wrights as we bring in JD's. I spoke with a sales rep this morning at my local Deere dealer and he sent me some prices for the Quik Traks they have in stock.

60” Q850M with pneumatic - $12,600

54” Q850M with tweels - $13,290

54” Q850M with pneumatic - $12,300

I don't want tweels so you can cross that off.

Normally we run 52,48,36 on each trailer.

The 300 difference for an extra 1/2 foot of mowing is attractive to me especially considering the amount of acreage we mow.

My question is that after that is a 60-inch mower even plausible for 8-12,000 sq ft yards which is the majority of what we mow?

One of the big things I want to increase the productivity on our larger properties. The 52s work great but there are wide open spaces that I think the 60 will really help cut down on time at.

I’m curious how it’s going to do on hills. I know this was 15 years ago, but I demoed a wright stander 61 once and it could barely make it up a hill.

61 Standers here... super nice imo. Very comfortable. Tires make a difference on hills I think... Mine are decent enough but I would call them awesome on hills. But with that said, I don't have ANY hills that I have problems with. Ditches? that's a different story.

I don't know if I have another new machine in my future. But I've always said, "No JD because they don't have one with a 7iron." But I'm super anxious to hear how you like the deck

From a quality standpoint, on 8-12K lawns, no. My opinion.

That entirely depends on the kind of yards you have.
Does the 60 fit?
I’ll go ahead and assume you’ve been using the deck sizes you have for a reason.
If there’s rolly polly or dips n dives the bigger deck is a pain and no times savings as you extra manuver around
If there’s lots of obstacles same thing

the 52 does nearly what the 60 does but more maneuverable

I find if you’re running a 52 and a 36 the 48 isn’t needed , makes no difference in the golf bag

the 60 is for wide open acre or less
72 is for over an acre of zip n zoom cutting

In the last couple years we have picked up some pretty big properties. 6-10 acre homes and HOAs. 52s have gotten the job done but i think adding a 60 will help productivity quite a bit.

I want to get things done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Shaving an hour off every day by using bigger mowers on bigger properties or larger mowers than a 36 in a backyard adds up quick. Especially when it comes to payroll. Guys start getting into OT and thats a killer. Profits can drop very quickly.

Well it looks like this may have to wait. Looks like a rain day 🙄

we need the rain but i was pretty pumped to get this thing out.
What?! You should be grateful you have a chance to run that sum-gun in such conditions! You're not one of those guys who gets a new mower and then doesn't wanna get it dirty are you???

Go out in the rain dude... You'll love it even more!

Started up again. We got the front of a HOA done and it started to pour so we closed up.

First impressions,

Its a big machine. Comfortable ride. Seems to sit up taller than the wrights. Cuts well. Spit wet grass out like it was dry. Stripes good. Dont care for the controls. The 2 bars are a good way to jam fingers. Ill get used to it though. Overall I liked it.

Not liking the controls doesn't surprise me. I have never heard a bad word about Wright's controls. Seems like those who run them, speak highly of them. I have never tried them so I couldn't say one way or the other. If you can keep her cutting as well as it is right now, I think your assessment of getting used to them is accurate.

Are you pulling it on the trailer forward, or are you backing on?

i dont mind wrights controls but i end up pulling the levers back rather than using the front ones to go backwards unless going off a trailer.
