Is the trivantage the worst deck ever made?

This is a serious question. I've got a couple of mowers down with my main one waiting on a hydro pump that's coming tomorrow. I had to use an old back up 99 Lazer Z HP with a 48" trivantage. Unless the lawn is 100% grass, is one of our chemically treated lawns, and is only getting 5% of the blade cut off, it is almost a guarantee that the mower will leave stringers. Is there a worse deck? If I had one more day with this thing, I would have sold my organs to buy a new mower just for back up purposes.

So…in your mind, back in 1999 when the trivantage deck was the front line of the exmark products… everyone out there that used it had crappy cuts?

No… there is something going on with YOUR specific deck/blades/mower.
You're trying to look at a machine that's over a decade old and blame the design/engineering as if this is an prime example of the equipment at it's prime.

are the blades sharp, is the deck at the right pitch, are the baffles damaged/bent? Is grass completely scrapped off the deck for maximum lift/vacuum?
Are the spindles performing at 100%? is the deck drive belt slipping or loose or the decl pulleys worn?

Even in 1999 blade tip speed was at or near 18,000 fps.

there's nothing wrong with the trivantage deck…there's something wrong with YOURs.

My mower cuts good just not so great in wet grass. My mower cuts as good as a brand new Husky MTZ deck.

I have used 6-8 types of decks and Tr vantage you have to mow a little slower. sharpen those blades and scrap the deck good! There is a bolt near the chute area and you can remove it and the grass exits out the chute better. Its that little bolt on top of the deck.

Can any exmark expert clarify just what the "Ultracut 3" deck is? Is it the trivantage rebranded? And then what is the Ultracut 4? Is it the Exmark version of the turbo force by Toro?

Fixing to buy a Pioneer S 52" or a Deere 915b 54" 7 Iron. Can't find any real info on the UC3 deck - if it sucks like the trivantage, I will not buy it......

Help?

#3 is the old trivantage. #4 is the original ultracut.

Why don't you demo them? I have one of the supposed horrible Trivantages as does Camero and many others I see all the time. My cut is second to none in anything other than a soaked lawn.
A Velocity will leave a better cut in wet, but looking at them on a dry decent lawn they are not as crisp. Yes its still a quality cut, but they have different strengths.
There is people whowill say good and people who will say bad about every deck. Only YOU can decide if the quality of the cut is for you.

Good post Hawkshott99. Getting the deck dialed in makes a big difference as well.
This is hugely important.

The local bridge authority has 2 new Scag TT's. The TT leaves a pretty good cut....Not these 2. They take a slightly shaggy area, and when they are done it looks like a bush hog was used to do the work. This does not make me not want a Scag because I have seen the cut they produce when not operated by people who could care less as long as the grass is shorter.

Im just trying to figure out what is what. Exmarks skeezy marketing nomenclature makes the UC3 sound like it is something more than it it and not a rehashed 15+ year old design.....
deeper deck and I believe the outlet is wider. I used the ultracut when I worked with my boss years ago.

Full breakdown of all of the Exmark decks.

The UC3 is .5" shallower and has smaller spindles than the UC4+. I believe it is what used to be called the Trivantage, as I have a older Viking with the Trivantage, and now the Viking is sold as UC3.

I still stand behind it cutting great!
