I owned a lawncare business for 35 years and also co-owned a lawn and garden equip. store for a while. Now, I am retired and just a "homeowner". We moved to SE Ohio in Dec and I need to buy a mower while I can still find one at a dealer. I am going to buy a lawn/garden tractor, not a ZTR. I have owned all the ZTR's I ever need to own. I need the traction, and I want to set this tractor up with a snow plow next fall. We only have two dealers here that have quality lawn/garden tractors, JD and Kubota.
So, which way to go is the big question. The JD X580 has a 24hp Kawasaki gas engine, aggressive tires, 2wd, and 54" deck. it is going to run around $8100.00, with tax. The Kubota GR2120, has a 17hp diesel, is 4x4, and has a 54" deck, plus aggressive tires. It will run $11,000 with tax.
The Kubota is a little more tractor probably, but is it worth it. I only need the machine to last about 10 years, then I will probably be in assisted living, or dead. I probably will never buy another tractor/mower, so this needs to last a lifetime. Anyone have one of these tractors and have some reliable history as to breakdowns, parts avail., etc.
