Hello all, I'm about 90% sure I'm going to be bringing home a John Deere X380 this week. My property is about two acres and is all mainly flat with only a couple gently rolling slopes. I may mow a couple family parcels of property at some point, but mainly just my own yard for now. My main reasons for leaning toward this machine and the pros I see are as follows. For one, the dealer is about 8 miles from me in the event I ever need warranty work, service, parts, etc.. The warranty is 4 years or 300 hours, whichever comes first. I really like that it has the 22 hp Kawasaki FS651V engine in terms of power and reliability. Also, this model has the K58 transmission with is a nice step up from the box store transmissions like the K46. Now, for the cons. I feel they are very proud of this mower in terms of the price. For what I'm paying I really think it should have power steering and even a locking differential. With all that being said, do any of the forum members who may own one of these have any advice or feedback? Are you happy with your purchase and the performance of the mower? I'm also considering getting the mulch control kit for it as it seems like a really versatile attachment. Thanks for any advice and/or feedback anyone can provide!

I had several Zeroturns and I sold them for a John Deere X300. The Zeroturns just could not bag well enough and I got tired of grass and debris in my flowerbeds with gatorblades. I have lots of trees and shrubs that leave a mess year round. The better expensive models with the powerchutes might be a better option, but for homeowner grade smaller 42" cuts, It just was not feasible and the bagging kits on the Hustler just could not get the vacuum for fall cleanups. I do miss my Hustlers. I had a Fastrak and a Fastrak SD, but my X300 cuts just as nice and picks up all the garbage. If I ever move and have a wide open property with less trees, I will go back to a ZTR, but for now, the X300 was the best choice for me.

I just picked up my Deere X380 with the 48 inch deck with mulch control. I got to mow yesterday and I'm very happy with my choice thus far. The engine is very quiet and power is on demand, the cut quality was very impressive. I really like the straight edge deck design for trimming close to things and the machine feels very planted and comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of the foot deck lift, but I'll get used to it. So far, so good!
