Kawasaki 940 engine. With my last one, the previous owner was using Purolator filters and he gave me his stock. They are $6.99 on amazon. I'm out of them and need to buy more filters tomorrow.

The Kawasaki filters are almost $12 on amazon.
I don't mind spending $12 on an oil filter one bit - unless it's really no better than the cheaper one. Then I'd just get the Purolator. I'm almost to 100 hours on my new machine and plan to switch to synthetic at that point. Was thinking about trying the Amsoil as I hear a lot of good things about it. Does Amsoil make a synthetic? Is 10w30 what I should go with in se wi?? Otherwise I can just go back to Mobil1

Appreciate the feedback

I meant FX921 engine.

My dealer does but he's a few miles away. I could just wait a bit and pick them up from him I suppose. How much for a jug of Kawi oil?
Ours is $8.00 a quart but it can vary a bit as all our Kawasaki stuff is on tiered pricing and when you purchase. So you have to buy big and the right time to be competitive. So helping your local guy out will help him be able to compete price wise as well as keep him there.

For what reason exactly?

I've recently been using a replacement auto filter that has identical specs to the kawi filter. Cost me the same price for 3 of them as it costs for one kawi filter. The kawi oil is also extremely expensive due to it having the name on it. THere are equal and better products out there that can be had for more than half the price of what kawi wants for their filters and oil. Honestly, the kawi oil is probably nothing near as good as a top shelf synthetic oil.

The Kawi oil is semi-synthetic, but it is more than good enough for the application, especially so since I change my oil/filter every 100 hours. Even dino oil is more than adequate and there are a lot of posts on this site alone over the last several years from guys that have sent samples to Blackstone for testing and have the reports (and posted pics of them on here) that show the dino oil could have gone up to twice the amount of hours and still be doing their job. There may be "better" oils out there, but one will definitely not be going wrong using the Kawi oil, and here, it is less than most others and on par with dino oil for cost.

I don't have to change my oil more than 2x a season. So keeping that in mind, doesn't sound like there's a whole lot to worry about as long as I get one of the name brands, in the correct weight.

Mobil1 is pretty cheap at Walmart and the Purolator filters have been good to me as well. I will probably just stick with that then - though I may go 10w40 rather than the 10w30

Oil manufacturers do quite extensive testing. Kawasaki oil is no better fit for their engines than any other top tier oil. It just has kawi on it. Anybody know who supplies kawi oil and sticks the kawi sticker on it? API SL JASO MA, excetra excestra excestra. Many people go crazy over oil. Buy what works but honestly you're never going to convince me that kawi has more knowledge about oil than the oil people. Same with the honda stuff I buy, it's just got their name on it. I have been using the honda small engine oil for a long long time and it's always done just fine.

Kawasaki
I'm sure that's a fine oil. @ $20 a quart it's out of range for what I'm willing to pay.

Now Valvoline VR1 20W50 Fully synthetic is a damn fine oil that is packed with zinc and other fine friction modifiers. It's on sale at Napa for $7.99 a quart. Normally $13. Qt.

I would suggest a 40 or 50 weight multigrade synthetic. The 30wts are compromised in zinc levels because they are designed to protect modern cars and their catalytic converters. I use Mobil 1 vtwin 20W50 in my Kawasaki 18.5hp in upstate NY year no problems in colder fall cleanup temps. In my 994 diesel I use the JD plus 50 II 0W40 full synth.
