I just picked up an FS66 in good shape with obvious low time. Anybody know what years the FS66 was originally sold new and any experience with reliability to report? Parts may be a little hard to find now I guess.

You'll be very happy with your find. Can't give you an answer to specific manufactured dates, but I was using the model in the early 90s. Parts are still readily available and share with other models. Carburators were and are made by Walbro and can find info for service and maintenance through either the Walbro and/or Stihl sites.

To get a good start, give it a good maintenance run through, changing of spark plugs, filters/elements, check if fuel is fresh and the like. Easily broken down and assembled. Keep it on a good maintenance program and it'll run worry-free like a champ for you. Heck, not real tempermental if you miss an interval or 2, still runs strong!
Thumbs Up

I discovered an abundant selection of both new old stock and used parts is available on eBay for the FS-66. I found everything I needed there to practically restore mine, however, I did get carried away a bit and I now have more invested in it than I could have bought a new current model for. Oh well...

I have owned mine sence 1984, I bought it New and the only thing that I have ever done to it is change the spark plug. We use it all the time and now I just put in a new piston and rings. It was starting to lose compression. It runs great again. It's a great machine. When I bought this machine I also bought a stihl chain saw. It still runs great and used it to clear 22 acres of woods. Wouldn't own any other product.
