I first heard of Mahindra a few weeks back when I saw a commercial and it said #1 selling tractor in the world. That surprised me but it may be because I'm in John Deere country down here in Delaware.

Anyway I'm at a forestry show in upstate New York and Mahindra is here. I was talking to the owner of a dealer up here and I'm really impressed with their compact tractor. From what I can tell they seem to be a few thousand less than Kubota and New Holland. They're offering 0% financing for 84 months so I could pick one up for around $250 a month. It would be huge for me to have one. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I had a loaded, backhoe, tiller etc.

I also like that they're the only company that redesigned their motors to be emeissions compliant instead of going with the DEF additive. I drove a tow truck before landscaping and every heavy truck we had was a night mare always in and out of the shop. They may have gotten that straightened out but I think that's a huge seller for me.

I tried searching this site and I found nothing at all on their tractors. Does anybody have input?

About my business: mostly residential, bush removals, stump removals, garden tilling, log splitting. Some lawn rejuvenation.

You will be surprised at the comparisons on tractor net when looking at JD and Kub. The loader height sold me and the fact it was not a sub compact foot print. The 1526 is a strong machine it replaced the 3016. I had to call a (70+ years old) farmer about loading and I thought he would get on me about the purchase he praised the company, i couldn't believe it.

I went on the site and I only found good stuff when I searched around. It said it lifts 38% more than the comparable kubota and a few other things. I may have had an impulse buy but I think I just bought it and needed a trailer to tow it 400 miles home and I have needed a dump trailer for years soo...

Looks like a nice size tractor , I would suggest getting the HST transmission , its great , no shifting what so ever . And add a 3 rd function from the dealer so you can run separate hydraulics . get the quick attach bucket . If you have the cash get the backhoe attachment , it opens up many other avenues for work .

Sounds like a good tractor for the money but I think jd outsells the competition because my local dealer has a hard time keeping the 1 2 3 and 4 series tractors on the lot because they sell so many of them. I have a 1025r and its a really easy to use tractor and the attachments come off in 30 seconds

Yeah I'm definitely getting the 3rd function now that I looked into it. I do some tree work. Not much maybe a few tree a month. I'd like a grapple at some point and that would be handy. The one I'm "potentionally" getting of the loan goes thru is a 3 speed. It has cruise, tilt wheel, seems to have some amenities without being over the top

Overall they are not a "bad" machine but if you really start searching them you will find a lot of quality issues that seem to pop up. I know two locals that own them and both say "its ok." they both have had several issues with them and both feel they won't buy another one.
Kubota, Deere, etc are top ten or a reason - overall both are excellent machines. I have owned 5 Kubota's over 10+ years (3 currently) and have not had any issues other than one bad safety switch which was covered under warranty. They have very good resale if you choose to update or buy a different model.
Also pay close attention to how things are rated in the tractor world. Some rate lift at the pins, others at the bucket lip, etc. Things like this make a BIG difference in the numbers they report.
As for pricing, around me a similar machine to the 50hp Kubota I bought was within 1K new - sometimes if you really shop you will find the prices can vary a LOT depending on the dealers where you are shopping.
Good luck on your search

I've got a friend with a Mahindra utility tractor and he's been thrilled with it and it's been very dependable. When I bought my Kioti DK50SE, I looked really hard at the Mahindra 5010 and liked it a lot. Ultimately, I liked the fit and finish on the Kioti cab a little more and bought it, but I could have been happy with the Mahindra.

I have been thinking about purchasing something along these lines but honestly I am not sure where to even find a list of jobs they can do and services I could offer. Any suggestions?

First you have the loader , it moves materials , now for the implements . Grading , with grade box and your rake , redo lawns , rototiller , slit seeder , and aerator . Backhoe attachment , it a great tool for drainage . Mowers , finish mowers are ok , a bush hog sails thru tall grass, vines , and saplings , great fr clearing . Then there is snow . I could keep going but you get the picture

Do you charge by the hour or job or does it depend on the work you are doing? I have a customer that I mow 4 acres weekly. He had to have a new septic unit installed that tore up about 1/4 acre plus the pipe to the house. When they were finished they didn't grade out the dirt and so in order to mow that section I have to go very slow at 5.5". That was going to be the kind of work in started with. Simple things like grading and hauling/spreading dirt etc....

Guess I got to start somewhere.

To go back to a previous post on John Deere and kubota being a top ten seller, Mahindra is #3 in the states right behind the two. I ended up buying it. They offered $250 off any attachments so I got forks for $500. I also got the tow bar on the back so I can move equipment around my garage and property. I only have a half acre so that is huge for me. Sometimes I want to put a chipper somewhere out of the way but I can't do it with my truck easily. I'm really excited. I towed it home on a 6x12 dump trailer. Fairly impolsive buy. But they are two pieces of equipment I need because I rent them several times a year. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I'm on my phone and I don't think I can post from here. Other companies I work around have mixed feelings. Sometimes people just don't like seeing the new guy succeed. "If I were you I wouldn't buy one without a cab" yeah.. But if I had another 10k laying around maybe I would replace a mower rather than have a comfort feature.
The list of attachments don't end. I'm thinking of putting a snow box on it and sending a guy or two out for driveways. I only do commercial now but get a ton of calls for driveways after storms and I always turn them down. We'll see.

Ultimately i annoyed the sales guy for three days at this show and I felt like I had the obligation to buy it from him over my local dealer. He literally spent hours talking to me knowing I lived 8 hours away and there was a slim chance I would be going home with it. I respect that in a company.

They added a fluid to the rear tires as a counter balance. It's a $400 option. I can't remember what it's called but they said it's definitely necessary to save the front on on that by weighing down the back. Do you think that's enough? I can't remember what it's called. I'll look threw my paperwork tonight when I get home to find the exact name.

The stuff they put in the rear tires was probably beet juice, which also is marketed under the trade name "RimGuard". http://www.rimguard.biz

Congrats on the new tractor. That's always exciting.

I agree with Mdirrigation on the box blade. To answer your question, fluid in the rear tires is NOT enough ballast. First, you probably need more weight than that 400 pounds. Secondly, the filled rear tires don't do anything to take the weight off the front axles, whereas a box blade or other counterweight hanging off the 3 point hitch will provide a fulcrum effect to do exactly that.
