Rained all night and most of today. At 2 I figured being slow and wet was better than working Saturday.

Yall must have some special floater tires or push mowing cause I think we all are on a different page on wet conditions. It didn't rain today or last night and sprinkles yesterday for about an hour. but 8 out of 10 yds I went to today I was boggin up to my ankles just walking acros the yard. The only ones I was able to mow where 2 I have side by side that are on a slight hill of real sandy soil so they drains good.

We have clay soil. Most customers here won't let you mow when it is wet. Just a mind set of the rain will end soon. Well this year seems to be the exception to that rule. The last couple of years have been wet. Just misty rain now. A flood yesterday
No we mow when it's been pouring for 10 days straight. The only time I don't mow is when it's frozen.

down here it's hard to push mow a 4 acre yard with a 21" mower with water covering almost half the yard 3"- 6" deep....all while mowing the grass at 2".

some yards you can't even mow the lower part of the yard until june. they stay so wet til then. it doesn't matter if it rains alot that week or not. it takes them that long to dry out.

if you tried to push mow it your shoes would be full of water and mud. if you try to mow with ztr or whatever it gets stuck. all you can do is wait for it to dry out.

I mowed today in a mist the whole time, after it rained yesterday was only able to mow 4 yards and what normally takes me 30 mins a stop I did in a hour a piece. but with 3 days of rain coming I opted to try it. it was mushy, looked bad and clumped horribly and at one stop I also thought I left me enough room by weedeating most of a ditch but the mower slid down anyway and wouldnt come back up had to be pulled out with the truck. do any of yall run walk behinds? ive never needed one but im thinking about buying a used one just for wet conditions, I don't see how they would track as bad as a zero turn when wet, and definitely be easier to get unstuck? ive got 10 yds so far behind for this week that will have to be mowed atleast Monday. and that doesn't count whats still scheduled for this week. I think I could have mowed most of them today with a walk behind but idk.
Walk behinds work great in the wet get a hydro better tracking and speed control, also if big enough and sulky can almost keep up with a ztr.

I cut them wet to keep them on the same schedule and have no problem with my scag tt. I just let tire pressure down to ten lbs and take my time turning and cutting so I don't tear the grass and always go in different directions not to stay in the same ruts. If it gets soft I weed eat those areas.

I appreciate your thread. As a customer, I am firing the company who cut my grass in the pouring rain yesterday. Today it is yellow , looks awful - not neat and tidy like I want and I am already seeing patches. I decided to research before hiring someone else.

Yellow grass usually is dull blades or cutting too low.

Give it a day before going nuclear.
This is correct , in reality grass cuts easier/cleaner when wet, water is a lubricant , anybody who has spent hours on a trimmer, rain vs dry or ever watered down shrubbery before trimming will attest to this fact. More likely the fault is the fert company dumping a ton of fast acting N and then getting a bunch of rain so they are now cutting below the sheath.

Cutting your lawn in the rain ,in its self is no harmful to your lawn , dang when I lived in Oregon I remember mowing one yard in the rain four weeks in the row. In the pacivic nw this is standard practice.

Unless I am leaving mud tracks or ruts I am mowing plain and simple. Come out and tell me not to more in the wet? No problem see you next week and hopefully it's not raining then as well. That line usually changes people's tune.

as a professional lawn care company, i totally disagree with your statement. cutting wet grass DOES NOT cause the lawn to yellow overnight. if you are talking about clumps of grass laying on top of the turf, then i agree with you, they should clean that up (and there are ways to).

when i mow in the rain or wet grass, if the customer isnt home at the time, they really will have no idea if i mowed in the rain or not, because it looks as good as always or i wont cut it in the first place.

also about hiring someone else, if they are a genuine lco then there might be times that the new company would have to mow in the wet also.
