Your usual price is about right. Chemical cost, fert cost, labor cost--plus a base fee or minimum which (in theory) covers your overhead. Plus profit.
You save nothing in your labor, fert, herbicide or overhead on a big property as compared to a small property. Do you get a discount if you buy 50 dollars worth of gas?
True, you only have to make one trip. True, you only need one stamp to send the bill.
 
Sports fields and lawns are 2 different animals. Just because they’re both turf doesn’t mean you can do the same type of program for both.

Sport fields are unique in that they need much more than just slinging fert and weed control, etc. Core aeration and maybe some sand. I don’t know the entire process but these are a few things you need to think about

The ballfields are actually located in New York and yes I'm licensed in New York and New Jersey let's not turn this into an interrogation I'm just trying to properly price a job

No offence taken I didn't mean it that way sorry if I came walk too abrupt.
It's just after about 20 years of being on this site. I'm still asked for credentials certifications etc Lol

Sometimes it's the way a thread is worded that makes one think that the OP is not properly licensed

I guess my issue is the numbers I come up with are substantially higher than their previous company which is a very big national company, my numbers came up almost double that of the previous company.

Your fine, just sayin'

Sometimes the biggies have a small (if any) profit margin.

Suggestion: Material costs + what's your time/effort/equipment use worth=Price

I honestly don't think we'll get it my numbers are usually a bit higher than the local competition.
It's really hard to get a baseline some guys price so low it's shocking and on the other side I can't believe with some guys get for an average 10000 ft² lawn
 
When I was with a big national company, 1978, they often discounted big properties. The salesman measured by eye; it looked like they had landed an amazing new office building account. The salesman made his week's quota by Friday at 5 pm.
For no logical reason. Claimed it was for "prestige"--or something like that.
Trouble is--the poor technician who had to spray it--got credit for spraying an acre--and maybe it was really two acres. Got back about 6 pm with 21 empty bags.

This is a situation where you have to be a good salesman. Convince their facilities manager that you will do a better job. More experienced people, soil tests, more careful calibration, better equipment. Less water in your solution. Safer products. Less odor. Explain how the actual real sqft can be calculated.

Be alert for smart facilities manager claiming another company bid lower--claiming.

And...make sure your costs are in line. Cheap fert at about a dollar per m. Herbicide at 20 cents per M. Labor at a dollar per M. Sharpen your pencil.
 
Pricing is difficult since all areas are different. Even one guy operating out of his garage and another renting a shop will have different cost.

Also facto in your products and turf type. If I was applying a blanket app of tribute total and specticle my price would be a lot more than prodiamine and 3 way.

Take your overhead and product cost per 1000. Then find a current property and time yourself so you can do the math for larger stuff. Then run the numbers.

I would also look at the program they want to run. Is it specified? You do what you want?
