We just put down a load of St. Augustine. It looks a little anemic. A buddy of mine told me to put down a 24-2-12 fertilizer.

Any one have any thoughts? I usually wait 4-5 weeks before applying a high nitrogen fert.

General rule of thumb: pre-fertilize the soil, seed, water twice a day until grass shoots start growing. Don't mow until height reaches 3.5". I used
18-22-10 with 10%OCEANGRO™ +1%Iron, A control-release Starter/Winter fertilizer plus iron provides available and slow-release nitrogen and high-level phosphorous for seeding, root growth on sod. Covers up to 12,500 sq. ft. It worked great!

I normally wouldn't put a high amount of nitrogen on st aug sod within the first few weeks. If I use a granular, I usually put down 10-0-20. The majority of time I'll do a liquid potassium treatment with micronutrients and hit it with some myclobutanil and an insecticide since you'll be watering it more than normal.

Everybody seems to have a misconception about high nitrogen. I don't care if the bag labels is 2-0-0 or 75-0-0 you still put the fert out at the same rate of 1 lb max on Florida lawns. The bag of 75-0-0 will cover a much greater area.
I do agree to add other micros and maybe some fungicide this time of year for southern FL like Nunyabisnes stated
