Can I get some general opinions on Hustler Super Z Rear Discharge?

Would this be an okay every day machine?

I have just landed one thats a 2005 with 181 hours and one owner for $6,000?

Sound decent?

Congrats on the new purchase. Let us know how the cut is................
So far so good! I really like the way it cuts, it seems to just lays everything evenly in place. It is also extremely quite, and no more grass clippings all over sidewalks and fences. Another thing I have noticed is that the 27hp is more than enough power for the mower, in my opinion. The deck is also a whole lot more quite than a standard side discharge deck.

how did it go with the RD last fall? I am thinking seriosly about pulling the trigger on one to mow a cemetery with and am curious about the cut on taller wet grass, we cut at 3 inches and only mow once a week at best and in MO that cool season flush of fescue/bluegrass/dandilion can grow fast. how will I like it you think?

I assume yours is a 60 in deck. would you be satisfied with a 25 hp Kaw? which is the one they are pricing me. on a super Z

I talked to a city that mows a 50 acre cemetery with upright stones and they get about the same production rate I do. and it is time consuming. 1 man + 1 60in.ztr + 1 string trimmer =20 acres.
they bought a hustler super z w/60 in. RD deck last year and loved it, going to buy another this year and get rid of thier side discharge JD

Well I got rid of the Super Z RD pretty soon after I got it. It really did not fit my needs and I was pretty disappointed in the Hustler dealer in my area. The cut was "average" and had some clumping when it was wet, but not terrible. It did not really chop up the grass and so the clippings were longer. All in all it did not fit my needs, but I did not need the RD feature. If you are mowing a lot near road ways, cemeteries, repo homes, new home sites, basically anywhere where there is crap that can get thrown that is an issue I would say go for it. If you only mow one cemetery and the rest are normal homes or other commercial accounts then I would suggest just getting a standard zero turn and putting a mulching kit on it.

As far as power, the 27hp did me fine and did not really bog down or seem do have a lack of power. Also, I have a 25hp on my 60" Lazer and it does great. Also, RD takes less power because the clippings are not getting mulched, so I definitely think a 25hp would be good.

thanks for the info, this is the only thing it will be used on and I don't expect it to be like a exmark/toro/scag cut quality but safety is important when experiencing stuff bouncing off headstones back at ya. I wonder how mulch blades would work on it?
I am not sure, I never had mulch blades on mine. I believe mulch blades would probably help.

There is subdivision near me... http://theecovillage.com.au/site/index.php/village/2/ They use an RD Huster, as well as a Turf Tiger! The RD machines cut is absolute rubbish if theres any moisture and or length in the grass. Clumps everywhere! I drive past it every day and know exactly which machine was used in any given area. They have to cut A LOT of grass each week so its no problem for them, but there is know way I would use one on a residential, or commercial lawn. They have there place and thats in parks, road sides etc.

We have a 27 acre cemetary running 2 RD here in N MO. They love them and do great unless the grass is wet. They will clump a bit, but if you wait till after the dew is gone they are great!! What part of MO are you from?

I am in centralia,MO where it takes two days to drain 1/2 of rain off the ground. this cemetery is right in middle of town and cut quality counts on this one, within reason. these horror stories make one nervous untill I see it for myself.
I need to mow with it starting at 8 am if it is to get done in two days time.

You might want to check out Grasshoppers new [think they started making it last year] rear discharge deck that has a 4th blade at the rear to help distribute the clippings. I have heard that these leave a better cut than the standard rear discharge decks.

How often will you be mowing it? And how many inches will you be cutting off of the grass? If its not much and your sceptical about the RD just put a mulching kit on a standard side discharge and away you go. Then you will allways have the option of takeing out the mulch kit and mow standard side discharge.

I do belive that they have a great cut if your not cutting off to much grass. On a weekly mowing you will be just fine.

I was just going to suggest the Grasshopper 4 blade RD as well for someone that actually needs the rear discharge. But I see that it wasn't liked...

I don't understand the "slow" part, but the rest is understandable. No matter what they do, a RD deck is just never going to leave a clean cut unless you are mowing 2 to 3 times a week. I think the RD decks are best suited for golf course rough mowing, parks, campuses, etc. Where there's people and cars around often and mulching isn't the answer.

I had opportunity to demo the Grasshopper RD last summer, but didn't, because I have no use for one either.
