This is a good job for a biologic product like "Milky spore". It is essentially a disease of grubs. But they extract only the product that kills the grubs--no live bacteria are included. Almost non-toxic to animal and humans.
Second choice is grub-killing nematodes--i cannot recall name of product. Wait--found it

Third choice is Mach II--an insect growth regulator--prevents maturation.
However at this time of year, the grubs are more mature. Most companies recommend Sevin (low toxicity, water it in) or Dylox (water it in--fairly safe). Don't let dog out until watered in and then allow grass to dry. Water it in heavily--you must wash it down deep into the soil where the grubs reside.
