This is a good job for a biologic product like "Milky spore". It is essentially a disease of grubs. But they extract only the product that kills the grubs--no live bacteria are included. Almost non-toxic to animal and humans.

Second choice is grub-killing nematodes--i cannot recall name of product. Wait--found it

Third choice is Mach II--an insect growth regulator--prevents maturation.

However at this time of year, the grubs are more mature. Most companies recommend Sevin (low toxicity, water it in) or Dylox (water it in--fairly safe). Don't let dog out until watered in and then allow grass to dry. Water it in heavily--you must wash it down deep into the soil where the grubs reside.

The reasons I don't reccomend Milky Spore is that it is only effective against Jap Beetle larva and can take up to 3 years to be effective against them. Most pros aren't able to identify which type of grubs are present let alone a homeowner.

Nematodes work well if timing and conditions are good. Another product that makes soils toxic to grubs is ICT Organics NPP.

There are a couple of Bt species that are very effective and safe, one of the reasons monsanto made Bt corn, to keep worms and catepillars away, besides owning the world and all and trying corner the market on FOOD

beside the monsanto thing, Bt is very effective and safe for pets and kids

 

Cedar oil is a very safe way to control Mosquitoes, ticks and fleas safely around the house and it smells good too
