Anyone done this before, I need to take them off, anything I should know? Just unbolt right? They dont seve as any sort of structural support for any other components right?

. I took mine off it runs better without them.
Funny, there are 2 Hustlers sitting at the dealership with ROPS on them. One is a folding unit and the other is a fixed unit. And they have installed them on ones that customers have also. Hustler has been pushing them for about the last 6 months.I tried mine with them folded down. It was delivered with them folded down and I never put them up. Even then, I had to be very careful around low trees and I even "pruned" a low limb one time. I yanked the ROPS off as fast as I could after that. I've assembled a few Ferris mowers for the local dealer, so I knew there were two pieces of tubing where the ROPS mount for shipping. I asked my dealer for a couple of these and everything is great. I wouldn't be too worried about a rollover, especially on a Ferris. These mowers stick to hills like flat land. Look at Hustler and Bob-Cat--they don't even come with ROPS.
So because the Hustler flipped over, thats the manafactures fault. Was this guy abusing it. Cause I love when people abuse their machines and then want to sue when they get hurt. Kinda like the lady that sued McDonalds for burning herself with the coffee. I forgot what she was doing, but she was in teh wrong but she won anyways, bunch of bull$hit.Hustler will get sued soon enough because someone flipped there mower and is paralyzed now.
This is AMERICA. People surely can't be held responsible for their actions. You have seen 5 gal plastic buckets with the "be careful of drowning in the bucket" symbol attached. 50% stupid people/ 50% lawyers...looking for something to rape.So because the Hustler flipped over, thats the manafactures fault.
