Figured out what the issue is. The pto switch must be bad. I can take and wiggle the switch itself and can get the light to come on if I wiggle it right. Thought maybe it was making a bad connection down below where the plug is but it wasn't that.
Not a big deal to replace. But curious, is the pto switch going out a common problem?

 

There is a scag FB group I recently found. There's multiple posts/week about newer low hour scags needing to replace the pto switch. I'm ordering several tomorrow, my TC2 has 12 hrs on it and don't want to have to make this post when it happens.

 

Yeah, my post might be one of those. Guess it will be a good idea to have a few on hand. Luckily I was able to get mine started by playing with it this time, next time might not be so lucky. Could get stranded if you don't have an extra one.

Wonder if scag knows about this, would think they would be doing something about it.

 

Just curious, have you been able to start it since you wiggled the PTO? Only reason I am asking...I have the same machine and same year, only the 31 Vanguard. At times I will get this awful sound when trying to start it. Hard to explain but like a bad connection somewhere. Dealer has had it a few times and can't really come up with any ideas. Curious if this is my issue.

 

If I can get the pto light to come on, I am able to start it. May have to hold the switch in the right spot. Sounds normal when it starts.

In your case, sounds like something different. Has your dealer tried replacing the pto switch? If not, maybe try that yourself. About $20 on amazon or ebay. Any issues with the 4 lights on the tiger eye panel? All 4 of them on with the key on?

 

Yeah never an issue with the lights on the panel as fas as being in. They have tried a new starter. With the PTO, maybe it’s causing a tiny electrical issue, the issue I’m hearing. When it does happen, the 4 lights kind of reset...go off and on quickly.

 

Someone in the scag FB group just replied that he had his switch replaced. His dealer told him any new machines after 2020 have an upgraded switch supposedly. I hope I'm in the clear.

 

So pre 2020 needs the upgrade. I'm ordering a couple tonight - 483957. Quick and cheap repair.

 

I went back and looked, he said 2019 and up.
