Ok guys I currently have a Toro Titan zx4800 and although I’m pleased with it, I need a commercial unit. I cannot cut wet grass without major clumping. I have looked at the Scag Cheetah 61” with Kholer 29hp EFI for $9,999 and the Zmaster 3000 series with my ride for $10,499. I am now thinking about a JD 930 or 950. I need some help with what units you guys recommend, alot of guys around here run Toro and Scag (East TN). Thanks for the help!

The Scag with the Velocity deck and the John Deere with the 7iron deck will both do good in wet conditions.

My personal opinion the edge goes to the John Deere deck but again it's my opinion.
Those 2 decks will do "better" then other options in the wet, but still would not call it good. While I don't see a lot of JD's in my area, I see plenty of scag. They still clump and leave a less then great cut when it's really wet.
Everyone on here claims how great the 2 decks are, but I'd just call them better.

My Toro dealer treated me very poorly, I took in my Timemaster 30" they said it would take a week and a half, well 3 weeks later I havent even heard from them. I went to the dealer in person and they told me it could be another 2 weeks before work even started on it. The Scag and JD are the same dealer so I was leaning towards them considering my treatment at my Toro dealer.

Demo’d a JD, amazing! Demo’d a toro, terrible! Own a scag - advantage deck (estate model, not commercial), and it runs circles around the toro commercial in my opinion. Love my scag, but was thousands less than the JD 915e. Not apples to apples of course, JD cut was better than my advantage deck, but not by a land slide. But noticeable. Doing demos helped me a lot, maybe demo scag and JD, and choose from there. Wouldn’t consider the toro though if it was my money however.

With it being August in South Louisiana, the humidity is 100 percent daily with heat indexes around 110. It rains every afternoon. Every morning is full of heavy dew, so cutting in the wet is standard procedure. I can say with certainty that Gravelys and Toros cut like hot garbage around here. Scag is good, and so are the new Kubotas. Deere is the best in the wet. I have a 60 inch standard 7 iron pro that cuts flawlessly and a 54 inch MOD deck that will cut great in the wet with hi lift blades. It cuts beautifully in dry grass with mulchers, but terrible in wet conditions. Hi lifts kick out the grass and disperses great even in wet conditions.

Are those prices new?

That's an awesome price for a new cheetah

FWIW I was taught how to cut in the rain in 1992
My dad always cut in the rain at night with head lights years before that when I was a kid
Never had any other time to cut

Ever since about 1999 I’ve never missed cutting a lawn in the week it was scheduled

Rain slows us down but it’s just not the obstacle everyone is making it out to be... and all this was with sfs decks and pre scag advantage

Its more out of respect for the consumer, with my current deck even when cut on the transport lock I get huge clumps in a yard no matter how many times I go over it in wet conditions. And Sometimes the ground is just plain too mushy to be mowed though regardless of your deck quality.

Been receiving quite a bit of rain over the last couple of days and I had to get my lawn mowed. I cuta 3.5 inches taking about 2.0 inches off with my 48" Toro zMaster 3000. As you can in these pictures there was zero clumping and this was not double cut.
I typically mow under dry conditions but due to this mowing experience I have no fear of rain

Looks good to me. I mow quite a bit of damp to wet grass with my exmark with no issues.

Looks good, but then 2" is not taking much off at a time, so I'm not surprised you didn't see clumping. Doing this commercially though, you cut off various amounts per week, and encounter a wide range of grass type/conditions, and that's where you need a deck that will work no matter what. Toro's just isn't the deck for that.
