Running full throttle helps keep the exhaust port clean. But it also means going through more string and a greater chance of causing damage from slinging pebbles, etc.

I don't run at full throttle too often. Most of the time it is 1/2-2/3. In tight spaces, around glass doors/windows/cars, etc. I might run it just above idle.

Best suggestion I can offer is to run the trimmer at high enough rpm to leave a crisp lean cut on the edges while being careful in places where damage could be caused by the trimmer line.

 

I run full throttle for cutting a bank or something. For general trimming especially around gravels I run slower.

 

If you're weedwacking a hayfield down by all means run it full throttle, but never for general trimming around a home or anywhere else where flying debris may strike something.

 

If running cheap oil need run WOT to keep ports clean. A good syn oil w/additives and it don’t matter

 

Run enough throttle to do the job at hand, but no more than needed, then when walking to the trailer etc, rev it to full throttle here and there for a few seconds to help clear the ports if you are worried about that sort of thing. Good oil will make that a non issue though. Also, run it fast enough not to lug the engine which, if you lug it, can cause the clutch to slip in thick growth and wear prematurely.

 

Best answer you're gonna get. Dealers are just that, dealers and not necessarily real world operators. Take most of what they tell you with a healthy dose of skepticism.

All 3 of my echo srm225 trimmers and PAS systems get oozing goop on amsoil saber at 90:1. The least amount of goop was achieved by using VP walmart 2 cycle oil.

 

Will try some.

Having good luck w/Red Armour 60:1. Actually cleaned up all that goop and no need run WOT

 

i've had the best luck with husqvarna xp plus oil.

 

The thing I noticed by not running it full throttle (in addition to all the other benefits already listed) is the string lasts longer.

 

I very rarely mow at full throttle unless I'm string trimming a hill or somthing.

 

Doesnt that fs94 of yours have a little dial so you can adjust the throttle position to stop this "motorcycle rev"?

 

It always freaks me out to hear guys running at wot. Chainsaw, weed wacker, hedge trimmer whatever. Gas power has a feather throttle for a reason

 

When it comes to saws and hedge trimmers I do keep them wound up. I think it's better on them and on the cutting edges. It's not like you could shoot debris with them anyway.

 

Well if you are trying to cut back those pesky weeds and tall grass that hide out behind the 4x4 of fences the trick is run just above throttle so you can bend the line up into and behind the 4x4. The faster you spin the line the less give it will have to get up and into crevices.

 

You can tell it is slow on LS when how fast to spin a trimmer is one of the hot topics.
