Smoothing out bumps in old hay field

I have about 2 acres of grass i'm cutting at a new home. it's an old hay field which the previous homeowner used to cut about once a month with a tractor and a tow behind finish mower. Looks like he mowed the same direction every time and has rutted out most of the lawn.

Besides that, also just big bumps everywhere. Rattling the crap out of my mower, and obviously can't go too fast or I get launched off the seat.

What are my options? I don't want to strip it and level it. Would prefer not to have to spread loam/sand over the entire lawn to level, but could do section by section each season.

Will rolling it once the wet season comes do much? Anyone have experience rolling? Tow behind, or rent something bigger?

Buy a tractor and rotary cutter, or pay someone that does.

Get a dozer in there to straighten it out. Then reseed.

Get a real heavy roller, or you can rent a larger ride on roller. Like you said, when it's a little soft get out there and you'll have those bumps fixed.

Yeah...I'm not interested in stripping the lawn and reseeding...i'd rather keep it bumpy than do that.

Thanks rippinryno, I will look into renting a bigger roller. Wasnt sure if a tow behind thing would do any good.

Tow behind roller wont do much good unless the soil is wet and the humps are loose . A vibratory roller may work if the bumps are not large . The same roller they use for asphalt . I used one to roll out ruts on a soccer field when someone drove thru it with a car

find a tractor with a grader attachment on the back end. lower it down and smooth it out. it will do better after a rain when it's soft but not muddy.
