Ok, Michael. I am just trying to give you as much info as I can to get you going. So that red is connected to the interlock. It looks like it is the kill wire for the coils. Check it for ground or voltage. That connects to the black wire which goes to the ign switch and is the ground to sht the engine when the key is off and to prevent the engine from starting if the safeties are not made up.

I really don't understand what your getting at but let's see if I can clear it up
The red wire aka mystery wire goes to the magneto according to the diagram
Which is the magneto??
See photos
First photo--is this where the wires goes
Second photo--switch and mystery wire
Third photo--is this the magneto?

From the schematic, the red wire from the interlock ties into the black wire at the magneto and then the black wire goes to the ignition switch at terminal M. Yes that is the magneto (coil) and there should be a tab that the wires fit on to or a small wire coming out of the coil where the red wire can connect to. So either the black wire from the key switch can shut the engine down or the red wire from the interlock can shut it down. If the wire from the coil terminates near the engine case, then attach the red wire there.

View attachment 327902 Ok then red wire goes to the black wire from the magneto
See photo there will be 3 wires connected to the post/terminal
And another black wire should go from that junction point to terminal M on the ign switch.
Remember, all of your safeties have to be satisfied now otherwise the interlock will not let the coils fire.

It works the only problem is I think the starter solenoid might be on its way out becos every once in awhile I get a click instead of engine turning over
I checked all connections except start switch that has to be taken out up by the steering wheel I am sure that's filled with corrosion but maybe not its under the cover with the console so the weather may have not gotten to it
How long does it have to run for it to recharge via the lawn mower engine?

It should not take too long to charge. I would take the time to look at the start switch to check all of your connections. Just because it is tucked under does not mean that it cant have a loose or corroded connection. If everything checks out, replace the solenoid so you have a good baseline.
Check your PM.
