Starter Rope Sizes

Is there any place where I can look up to see what size starter rope is correct for a given application? Specifically, I need to know the rope size for a Kawasaki string trimmer. I tried my best to match the old rope to different rolls that I have in the shop and it seemed as if 3-1/2 was very close.
Any help would be appreciated.

Eric, Most parts look-up only gives a OEM part number for rope.

#3 and #3.5 is the most common used on smaller hand held equipment.

Thanks Restorob and Dutch. Its crazy that there is no cross reference available to ensure that you have the right rope. You would think that the aftermarket mfgs would consolidate the rope sizes considering that one rope size is .109 and the next size is .125. Could .016 make that much of a difference?

Thanks again

Stens rope seems fairly consistent in their number/measurements. The rope number indicates the number or 32nds of an inch. For example #3.5 represents 3 32nds(6/64) + 1/2 of a 32nd(1/64) or a total of 7/64.

I have several rolls of Honda rope which are very close to Stens measurements and are not close to the corresponding metric number in millimeters. On the other hand, I have a couple of rolls of Stihl rope, #3 and #3.5, which measure very close to 3mm and 3.5mm.

As long as the rope you are replacing is original to the equipment, a reasonably close rope size shouldn't be a problem.
