Kawasaki's are known to have issues with thier coils. Have you checked the simple things like air filter, fuel filter, plugs, gas cap etc.? When was the last time you checked your valve adjustment?

My vote is for coils too.
Too common on that breed/size engine.

Im thinking where the deck is height wise is imagination and it's the electrical.

 

Thanks for the responses. I changed out the ignition coils, they looked pretty bad once I took the old
ones off but that still didn’t solve the issue. Plugs, fuel and air filter are fairly new. I normally do the repairs myself but am not aware of a valve adjustment. Is that something simple to do? Should I be testing voltage anywhere??

 

Valve check/adjustment is covered in sect 2-11. Not hard to do, just follow the instructions. Do the simple stuff first to eliminate those items as a cause. How were the plugs when you removed them?

Black/dusted. I’ve also noticed a small amount of black smoke when starting it up sometimes now that I mention that but doesn’t happen often. When it does that, the engine sputters a very little then idles normally.

 

I would start by making sure that there is no build up under the deck, then check for a bad spindle bearing or deck pulley that is putting added load on the engine. Then maybe put some seafoam or other cleaning solution in the gasoline in case it's a bad fuel issue.

 

Your original post did not mention black smoke at startup nor black plugs.
You could have carb issues as well. I was just trying to get the easy things to check out of the way, so that everyone reading this thread is on the same page.
