Who is good and who is not;
Hey, this thread is about edging with a weed wacker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and who is good and who is not. Please leave your stick edging comments to your thread.Like I said, it's all about where you are,. Grasses and conditions where you work are completely different from where I work, not having a stick edger is akin to not having a blower on your trailer around here and will slow you down (and make you work harder) no matter how quickly you can edge with a string trimmer....or sweep with a broom as the case may be.
I think WW is a southern term. Shaft tanaka, best tool for large commercials IMO.what exactly is a weed wacker? same thing as a weed eater? I hate it when a guy says, "you want me to weedeat?" no, just run the trimmer! lol.
anyway, gotta disqualify myself from this thread, I use an edger.
man, I miss the shaft drive Tanaka's.
1. Five houses down . 2. That's why this thread, Who is good and who is not, it's a challange , not everybody is good at it.I use a trimmer on properties that don't need much edging but I think it's silly to not even own a (censored.)
Where is your truck parked when you complain about going back to get your (censored?) Ours is generally right there next to the sidewalk that needs edged, so I'm traveling an extra 4 feet and spending a few seconds to put one tool down and pick up another one.
I know there are plenty of guys out there with enough experience doing it that they are as fast with a trimmer as they can be with a (censored.) For every property I see that is edged well with a trimmer I see 10 more with 1" wide canyons that are filled with summer annual weeds when it gets hot out.
When I edge with a trimmer you can't tell whether I used that tool or (ce nsored.) I know when it was a bad choice though if I'm aching afterwards. Edging with a than when I use the (censored.)
He had the guts to throw his work up for criticism. Since you jumped right in the middle of his shizz how about you show us your work, i.e. trimmer work. I would suggest , "put up or shut up". Here's one of mineSo I forwarded to the next job site, yeah.
Hack it up pal, glad you're having fun while you do it.
A lot of properties would fire us for that kind of edging, no joke.
Really.........Excuse me?
I hardly "jumped right in the middle of his shizz." I'm pretty sure he slept right through my comment on the internet, actually.
I don't do maintenance anymore and there's no need to keep a trimmer on my spray truck. I have nothing to prove to you though. I can edge just fine with a trimmer but wouldn't even waste my time on a long drive or walk, because as I mentioned before I had a stick edger when mowing.
You're edging looks great and I believe I've said that before. Not many have your skills though and that video is a good example of why a lot of people don't use a trimmer or want their employees to.
If I had a chance to bid those properties with the owner present I would be pointing out the crooked edging and using the dedicated tools we have as a selling point.
True , as my son tells me , customer does not care that much, job just has to be better than they could do themself. Being on time.....this they care about. That said if you are always on time, do substantially better work at market pricing, you will eventually aquire that job and build 3+ yard stops. After about 2 years working on a street you start replacing the mediocre lco'sSure but guys here will stick edge and prices are market. Never once done it and very rarely have complaint about an edge. Contracts just state Trim/Edge nothing about tool.
Don't matter how much $$$ customers have. Most customers care if lawn cut on scheduled day, prop looks neat and price is reasonable.
People live busy lives.
Many guys Overthink quality.
Probably 2.5 minutes to edge-trim that front yard@dishboy .... Just curious, how fast are you at doing an edge like this? Looks real good.
No it's not....You can watch him do it in the video in post # 11. It's the same yard in that video.
The still picture yard is about half the square footage , no concrete edging on the beds and elevated turf on the walks edging , all making for much faster trimming on the still picture. 2.5 min was a guess, I have not mowed the still in a few years, moved my route closer to home. That was supposed to say the same type of yard. Just missed a word is all.
Hey, I run a scag swz everyday.I prefer a skag egger...lol just messing with ya dishboy
I can't stand trimmer edges.
Edge creep is operator error. Chipped and damaged concrete is more of a problem with edgers. Line trimming does not damage concrete. A Skilled Operator cleans up the shortcomings of a steel blade with a trimmer. I'm sorry you don't feel accplished on a trimmer. There is definitely a steep learning curve.I can't stand trimmer edges. I blade edge 100% of the time.
I really can't stand how the edge gradually gets bigger too when using a line trimmer
