I purchased a Ryan Lawnaire V this spring and am very satisfied with it. I have never run the Bluebird aerator, but am fond of their products. The Ryan does a great job, but with the drum full of water and the weights in it can wear you out quick if your not in decent shape. So my opinion; your not going to go wrong with either company. Good luck

I would say ryan because I like having the drum in the front as opposed the wheel. It makes turning the unit on soft ground much easier. I had an old ryan a few years back and it worked great. I have rented bluebirds and been less than impressed. That being said I think my next model will be one with a split drive system.

I've used both, Ryan is the best. I like where the self-propel control (on top) vs. BlueBird (bottom). It makes it easier to go slower in tight places

but... when it comes to dethatchers, bluebird wins
I have used both and personally I prefer the bluebird, I actually like the bottom handle it allows you to feather the speed like a variable speed push mower.

in the end I actually settled on a Husqavarna because my dealer had a good price on them. They are basically the same as bluebird. And yes get the split drive in either choice, much easier to maneuver.

Lawnaire 28.
Great point the ultimate Ryan aerator. Pulls the most plugs per square foot of any WB unit. Mathematically 0.5 more plugs than even the plugr 800, 850 or 855.

The manufacturers plug claims are inaccurate and fudged just like horse power ratings.

Then again these units Ryan 28 are spendy new and often neglected used.

Running that unit will set apart from your competition. Unless you want to covertly deliver more plugs and NOT get any extra $ for it.
