was out mowing first account today thought to myself man that cut sucks. Didnt know what was wrong and didn't have time to investigate so i just switched mowers. I got home tonight lifted mower and I had my left blade on my lazer hp on upside down. I just sat there and laughed and was happy nothing serious. Anyone else ever do this or equally as stupid?

A salesman told me this story about two partners new to the biz. They had a new mower that they'd changed blades on but after that it cut terribly. So they brought it into the shop where they looked at it and found the blades were on upside down.

First partner: "Look what you did when you put them back on, dummy!"

Second partner "Well you HANDED them to me!"

I've mounted a blade upside down once or twice, but I always check them and switch it back quickly. I've never mowed with one upside down. I wonder if you could make a dethatcher on that principle.

I did that on purpose on my Toro 120 groundsmaster when I was cutting down some 6' tall ugly weeds. I had ninja mulching blade on (upside down) and it did a better job. Not really the best machine for the job but it helped. My brother worked as an engineer at a factory years ago. One maintanance person they had was not the brightest bulb on the tree and took a push mower out to mow the grass. He was puzzled as to how it was running but not mowing grass. After investigation he found out it had no blade on it.

Man I can see where that could EASILY happen!! Must have been a funny looking cut! lol

Back in the early 70's my neighbor bought a new 21" Hahn Eclipse self-propelled mower with electric start......about $400, a very expensive mower back then. Cut like crap! He took it back where he bought it; they checked it out and couldn't find anything wrong so they sharpened the blade and sent him back home.

After a couple of weeks he was fed up and sold it to me for $75. I had never even looked at it but figured it was worth that. Glanced under the deck, took 2 minutes to flip the blade over and then spent the next 20 years or so mowing with an excellent mower.

No, I can honestly say this is one I've never had happen, but I have gone off cutting and wondered 'wth is wrong with this pos' then realized my blades were not engaged, things sure were kinda quiet thou.

I enjoy it, too, when I'm pulling and pulling and it just won't start...
And oh, the ignition switch is off.

ha! done that before!

Once put blades in 2 different positions. Above and below spacers.

2 blades were cutting at 3.5 inches.....the other was cutting at about 2 inches.

Didn't take long to realize something was wrong.

yep, put one on upside down. it actually did a fair job on my centipede, just a little uneven on some grass that was looking bad from the drought. then i went to my parents house which is mostly centipede w/ about a 20x20' patch of bermuda. it showed up badly enough that i got off of the mower to investigate and found a blade on upside down.
i bought a bg 85 blower last week. the dealer cranked it and handed it to me. i ran it for second and gave it back. he could find the manual and i was to pick it up this week. got ready to use it and could not get it to fire. pulled and pulled and pulled some more. fiddled with the choke and the primer bulb. i have several other pieces of stihl and i know they like to be cranked according to the stihl procedure. the switch on this blower has an "O" and a "___ (line)" for the on/off. i assumed that O meant on. wrong. out of curiosity i switched the toggle to the other position and ....voila'........it started like a dream.......makes me shake my head when i do things like that......!!!!!!!!

Man i know what you mean about the stihl crap i have some hedge trimmers and i alwase have to mess with them to figure out which one is on and off because i have several other pieces of equipment that are exactly the oposite and i can never remember which it which logicly i alwase assume o is on but its not and i can never remember it seems like i would learn by the way do you like your blower i am thinking about buying one does it chop the leaves up very good?

i got the bg not the sh, so i don't know about shredding. i would be scared that the impeller would pick up something like a rock and crack it. it does move a lot of air. the dealer sent me home with a bg 55, saying he could have anything he wanted and that was what he used at his house. i thought that was good enough for me. i got home and was a little less than satisfied. he took it back and traded me for an 85. it is definite step up. i have a long, wide drive that has a very sandy dirt road at the end. i need the extra power of the 85. i didn't want a bp bc i wanted something the wife would use (yeah, like that's will happen anytime soon). my brother has an older solo bp and the 85 is as strong.

This one has a recoil starter, but is this what yours looked like? Mine is from the 1960s. I still have it, and although it runs well, I never use it any more.

Sorry about that! The photo didn't upload that last time.

This may sound stupid.... But maybe NOT

everytime I pull a blade I use a magic marker and write TOP on the top side...

Dont ask me why I do it.....

Hey Larry.....

Yep, pretty much the same. Great mower but woulda liked it better if you could change ground speed without tools and 30 minutes worth of time!
