I really dont see how people are staying in Business like this...D*mn, I wished I could get what some of you folks are getting. Around here the rate is 35 per hour and thats the big time high end lawn companies, you can get it done for as little as 10 an hour and there are many that will do it for that. I try to stay away from shrubbery except for my high end clients.
I'm not doing any shrubs for $10 an hour.D*mn, I wished I could get what some of you folks are getting. may i add you forgot: advertising, accounting, billing, stamps, printer ink, cellphones, work comp, depriciation on trucks and equipment, loan payments (if app) maint/ repairs, reserves for new equipment (cause it dont last forever) training new employees, legal fees, licenses, if you spray then you need to update ceu's (continued education courses at local collages)..fertilizers, chemicals, supplies, and the list goes on.....people not running legit have NO CLUE what those of us who are legit have to deal with...its not a matter of "i wish i could charge that" its impossible not to...and grow into a large company...:usflag:I really dont see how people are staying in Business like this...
were a ligit CO. my trucks get 6 to 8 MPG. my employees are paid 10.00 to start. 18 for a crew leader.
But the time a truck get's there I've got 30 to 50 invested.
Lets not talk about insurance, uniforms, ware and tear......
you will only be able to get what YOU think your worth....YOU set YOUR rates.....not everyone around you.....if you want to make money set yourself higher than most....but then you need to deliver a better quality than the rest as well....its hard to turn away jobs in the beginning but you will eventually not get anywhere if your pricing isnt high enough...ive been doing this a long time (over 25 yrs) and ive seen a lot of big companies fail due to poor pricing and bad management skills...we have multiple crews and each crew has a specialty...one just does per cut mow and blows...one does higher end full service residentials and one does commercial.....all in all the mow blow and go crew actually nets a higher percent....while the commercial crew has a way higher gross...the residential full service is what keeps it all going in tough times though....good luck and think outside the box...follow no one!!!D*mn, I wished I could get what some of you folks are getting.
