I edge concrete with my trimmer all the time, and it looks damn beautiful when I'm done with it. I don't hold it upside down like he does, just lay it on it's side and walk.....

Every now and then I'll trim before I mow too, just to change things up. If you've mowed a place 100x you know where you need to trim so it's not a big deal.

Edit: Just noticed your screenshot below the video. Now THAT, I can't stand. Why trim a foot into the yard?

Yea, they do that silliness elsewhere. I've seen guys do this weird taper thing on grass they mow at 4" SMH.
Sorry , that's not the issue, again northern turf is different. All trimming /edging here is with a trimmer.
The guy is way over trimming and too short at that. A couple of weeks later his edges will all be burned up.

Once you have a nice edge, I don't see what the issue is with using a string trimmer. I do that when cutting my lawn and when I use to cut clients yards. Now I'm talking cool season turf here. Warm season...now that is a different story. The video looked like cool season turf to me.

My biggest concern was the trimming. I see it all to often. To lazy to get the 21" mower and cut the tight areas and along the beds and then trim where needed.

I blame the newbies. They cut grass as a kid so they are experts. And the customers who always want the cheapest price but a pristine job. Kinda like wanting a Filet Mignon for the price of ground beef.

I'm just glad I don't cut grass anymore for a living. It is tough to get guys to take pride in what there doing when they are forced to mow, blow and go like gangbusters to make any money.

As I only do applications now, I make sure the grass is cut properly, otherwise the grass cutter goes or the homeowner goes. I've been in business long enough that I don't need to put up with the shoddy work or cheap azz customer who wants the cheapest cut price.

The sidewalk (porch) in the video is at least 4" above grade. I see no issue with trimming along that area. You cant get a good cut putting a tire on the concrete and the other off. We utilize a string trimmer and stick edger on every job. If you have more than one person on the job, one will be trimming while the other is mowing therefore a lot of areas are trimmed prior to the mower getting there. Not sure why anyone would be critical of the guy making a video. He does it his way, you do it your way. I give him Kudos. He's having fun and is proud of what he does. Isn't that what all of us want??

Just FYI
Edging with a trimmer increases your chances of tossing debris exponentially
The guards aren't designed to deflect the debris when you've got it angled that way.
The thicker string everyone likes to use will pick up a rock from an edge like a giraffe tounge and sling it with enough force to slay Goliath.

This is why I'm such a fan of kombi units you can just slap the stick edger on in the shake of a lambs tail and done

I thought you meant work in white tennis shoes.
Sandals without socks is the way to go especially when push mowing. I kid...

I have been training a new employee on trimming and edging with a trimmer this past week and man its tough teaching how to trim properly. Hard finding good experience

^^^1 using string trimmer to edge can be good in the right hands:)
2 no one has talked to that customer but him so I would say I know I've had to deal with customer preferences as do you or not?
3 Lanier is a stand up guy, I actually sub his videos and won $50 Home Depot gift card from him so he's got my vote to trim on as long as customers happy and check clears I'm happy.payup

Might as well break out the old shears and skip the trimmer altogether. The only place we use a 21" is because I don't have 2 36" mowers or the 36" won't fit. Trimmers work just fine if one is trained and knows what he is doing.

I would love to do a side by side comparison on this prop with stick edger vs string trimmer.
